  • Patent number: 6807792
Abstract: A closure feed system for use on an associated form, fill and seal packaging machine for feeding and singulating closures from a closure storage region to a closure applicator. The feed system includes a chute for conveying the closures from the storage region to the applicator along a conveyance path defined by the chute. A singulator includes upper and lower reciprocating members configured for alternatingly reciprocating into and out of the conveyance path. The upper member includes a separating element having an upper surface and a lower surface. One of the upper and lower surfaces is formed at an incline relative to the other surface such that a distance between the upper and lower surfaces increases as the lower member moves into the conveyance path.

  • Patent number: 6394340
Abstract: An easy-opening, liquid-tight package has an interior space for storage. The package includes a front wall, a rear wall opposing the front wall, a pair of opposing side walls, a bottom wall and a top wall opposing the bottom wall. A seal wall is contiguous with the top wall and extends from a juncture of the top wall and the seal wall. The seal wall has an edge that is opposite the juncture. The seal wall is sealed to the front wall at an exterior surface of the front wall. At least one line of weakness is formed in the top wall, extending from the seal wall at the edge into the top wall. The line of weakness defines a cover portion of the top wall. The cover portion is formed from a portion of the seal wall and a portion of the top wall. When the top wall and seal wall are separated along the line of weakness, the cover portion is separable from the package to define an open area for accessing the interior storage space of the package. A blank for the package is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6205746
Abstract: A post processing fitment applicator for applying a fitment to a formed, filled and sealed carton is disclosed herein. The post processing fitment applicator may be utilized in conjunction with a linear form, fill and seal packaging machine such as a TETRA REX® packaging machine. The post processing fitment applicator includes a supply of fitments, a plurality of fitment carriers, a conveyor system and a hot melt dispenser. The plurality of fitment carriers are disposed on a continuous track that partially parallels the movement of a series of formed, filled and sealed cartons on the conveyor system. The plurality of fitment carriers is capable of applying a fitment to a formed, filled and sealed carton as it is moving along the conveyor system. Each of the plurality of fitment carriers may include a fitment holder and a fitment displacement mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6182887
Abstract: A package with an extended top panel has a front wall, a rear wall and a pair of parallel side walls. The package includes at least one top panel that seals to the package at a sealing region. A plane through the sealing region is spaced from a central vertical plane through the package. The extended top panel can extend to the rear wall at the sealing region. A second lesser top panel can extend from the rear wall and can seal with the extended front panel at an off-center top fin. A closure is accommodated on the top panel that has a cap having a diameter greater than the diameter of an aperture disposed through the extended top panel. A blank for the package is also disclosed herein. The package can include a handle attached to its top fin for carrying and displaying the package.

  • Patent number: 6139480
Abstract: A cutting device for imparting a partial incision to a blank, the blank produced therefrom, and a method for producing are disclosed herein. The partial incision in the blank creates an access area wherein a fitment is placed thereover in a post processing fitment application. The access area has an uncut portion and an unincised portion. The access area may have a circular shape or an oval shape. The depth of the partial incision allows for facilitated rupturing by the fitment after the blank is fabricated into a carton, and a fitment is attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 5975414
Abstract: The present invention is a carton with a fitment disposed where cartons without fitments conventionally were opened for accessing the contents. The carton has a truncated gable top with a triangular face upon which lies the fitment. The pouring of the product from the carton is similar to the traditional pouring operation from gable top cartons without fitments.
