  • Patent number: 5333691
Abstract: An improved system connects subsea coupling components mounted to a movable junction plate assembly and a fixed junction plate assembly of a subsea petroleum recovery tree. The connecting handle on a movable junction plate assembly is biased for locking engagement with a movable plate to manipulate the movable junction plate assembly, but may be unlocked upon engagement with the fixed junction plate assembly to permit rotation of the connecting handle and thereby threadedly connect the junction plate assemblies. An extension arm assembly for supporting the movable junction plate assembly may be pivotably mounted to a control pod assembly, with the extension arm being extendible and contractible to allow an ROV or diver to move the junction plate assembly within a preselected zone of control.

  • Patent number: 4759256
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling fluid communication with a fluid pressure system includes parallel flow paths connected to the system. A first flow path includes first valve apparatus for selectively closing the flow path. The second flow path includes relief valve apparatus responsive to fluid pressure in the second flow path to move from a closed configuration to an open configuration. Switching apparatus, including sensors for detecting the condition of the system, operate to close the first valve apparatus in response to pre-determined threshold values of such condition. Fluid communication from the system may thereafter occur along the second flow path at the relief valve apparatus opens in response to pressure buildup in the flow path. A third flow path, parallel to the first two flow paths, may be provided with throttling apparatus for controlled communication of fluid along such third flow path.

  • Patent number: 4707041
Abstract: A subsea well electrical coupling engagement system allows control modules in a subsea well platform to be remotely and electrically coupled to each other. Each control module has an electrical housing that extends laterally outward, the housing having at least one coupling on its outer end for inductively coupling with an adjacent module. The housing is mounted flexibly to the control module. A guide shoe located on the platform engages the lower side of the electrical housing to orient it. A latch rod located in each module latches the module in its receptacle. The latch rod when moved downwardly moves a linkage assembly to push the electrical housing outward into an engaged position.
