  • Patent number: 9102269
Abstract: A field of view matching video display system may comprise a tracking device, a rear-facing camera, a processing device, and a display. The tracking device is configured to capture a first video image in a predefined area in the vehicle and provide a first video image signal. The rear-facing camera is configured to capture a second video image and provide a second video image signal. The processing device is configured to analyze the first video image obtained via the first video image signal to determine a head position of the driver, determine a first field of view for the driver based on the head position of the driver, generate a third video image that substantially corresponds with at least a portion of the first field of view of the driver, and provide a third video image signal. The display is configured to show the third video image.

  • Publication number: 20130038730
Abstract: An apparatus and method by which a rear-facing, ceiling-mounted entertainment display for a vehicle can be made transparent or virtually transparent to a vehicle's driver uses a camera and a second, forward-facing display panel on which an image what the entertainment display blocks from the driver's view. The camera is attached to the entertainment display and captures image-forming light blocked to the driver's rear-view mirror by the downwardly extending entertainment display. The second display panel projects forwardly, i.e., toward the rear-view mirror, what the camera sees looking rearwardly.

  • Publication number: 20110307171
Abstract: A map data base can be used to assist GPS and other vehicle sensors (i.e., wheel speed, gyro, . . . ) in location estimation by allowing techniques such as determining if location is valid or invalid, best-fit determination, and others. Reduction in map data dependency can be achieved by using it only in areas where GPS position is not reliable. Reduction in map data dependency can be in the form of reduced size of map data base, or reduced data transmission in conjunction with anticipating future map needs, if map data is not stored locally on device.
