    Abstract: An aqueous suspension of sheet silicate and the method of making the same are disclosed. The suspension is produced by treating crystals of 2:1 layer sheet silicates with a solution containing a water soluble salt of a cation of a secondary, tertiary or quaternary alkyl ammonium compound and thereafter dispersing the vermiculite crystals.
