    Abstract: A method and system of enhancing a backlight-scaled image include a minimum perceptible luminance threshold of cone response with dim backlight being determined, and a luminance layer associated with an image being extracted. The luminance layer is decomposed into an HVS response layer and a background luminance layer for each pixel of the luminance layer. Luminance of dark pixels of the background luminance layer is boosted and compressed to a perceptible range above the minimum perceptible luminance threshold, thereby resulting in an enhanced background luminance layer. An enhanced luminance layer is generated through composition using the HVS response layer and the enhanced background luminance layer as inputs.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a stereo image correction system and method. A shift unit vertically shifts one image of a stereo image pair with a shifted amount, and a depth generator generates a depth map of the shifted image pair. A high-pass filter processes the depth map to result in a filtered output, and an analysis unit determines a matching point according to the filtered outputs and the corresponding shifted amounts, wherein the shifted amount at the matching point is determined as a matched shifted amount. A compensation unit vertically shifts the image to be shifted of the stereo image pair with the matched shifted amount.

    Abstract: A method of image compression and a device thereof are provided herein. First, an image having a plurality of regions is received. Next, a quantization process is performed on a specific region of the image according to a quantization value, wherein the specific region is one of the regions. Next, a first average bit rate of the specific region of the image after an encoding process is calculated. Furthermore, the quantization value of the corresponding specific region of the next received image is adjusted according to the first average bit rate of the specific region of the image. Therefore, by referring to the scene complexity of the previous image to adjust the quantization value, the compressed image quality can be enhanced and the compression ratio can be maintained a regular value without wasting bandwidth.
