  • Patent number: 5509813
Abstract: A joint assembly for electrically engaging a portable computer with a battery includes a first joint and a second joint. The first joint includes a first portion which defines at least one aperture and a second portion which defines a recess so that the aperture is in communication with the recess. A metal cylinder is received in the aperture and defines a closed end and an open end. A pin projects from the closed end of the metal cylinder and is soldered to a printed circuit board of the portable computer. A spring is received in the metal cylinder. A piston is slidably received in the cylinder. A male connector projects from the piston. The second joint defines at least one aperture. A female connector is received in the aperture which is defined in the second joint. A pin projects from the female connector and is soldered to the battery. The spring biases the male connector into firm engagement with the female connector when the second joint is received in the recess which is defined in the first joint.

  • Patent number: 5503491
Abstract: A friction adjustable positioning pivot includes a first shaft including a tapering threaded rod which defines a hollow space therein and a slot along a periphery thereof. An urging tube is taperingly threaded therein for rotatably threading onto the tapering threaded rod of the first shaft. A spring received in the hollow space of the first shaft includes an outer periphery substantially in contact with an inner periphery of the hollow space of first shaft and an inner periphery. A second shaft includes a rod portion received in the spring and in contact with the inner periphery of the spring.

  • Patent number: 5269047
Abstract: A hinge device for a casing of the type having a body portion and an upper cover the device including a substantially L-shaped mounting plate adapted to be securely mounted to the body portion of the casing, two washers respectively attached to both sides of the mounting plate, a pivotal axle having a mounting portion adapted to be securely mounted to the upper cover of the casing, an extension pivotally received in a hole of the mounting plate, a spring member, and a nut mounted on a threaded end portion of the extension. The nut biases the spring and allows the pivotal axle to be freely pivotable relative to the spring. When a desired position of the upper cover relative to the body portion of the casing is reached, the spring member biased by the nut exerts a longitudinal force on the pivotal axle to retain the pivotal axle in position.

  • Patent number: 5239731
Abstract: A hinge device for a casing of the type having a body portion and an upper cover includes a substantially L-shaped mount plate adapted to be securely mounted to the body portion of the casing, a sleeve attached to a first side of the mount plate, a pivotal axle having a conic portion thereof received in the sleeve and a flange portion against the sleeve, a spring, and a nut mounted on the pivotal shaft and located on a second side of the mount plate. The nut biases the spring allowing the pivotal axle to be freely pivotable relative to the spring. When a desired position of the upper cover relative to the body portion of the casing is reached, the spring biased by the nut exerts a longitudinal force on the pivotal axle to retain the pivotal axle in position.

  • Patent number: 5022778
Abstract: A pivot shaft constructed with a holder having a base and a vertical mount for a sleeve with a pair of diametrically opposed notches to lock into, above the base is a spring, a washer, and a nut. The spring has one end inserted into a hole of the base and another blockaded by a outer edge of a washer. A shaft consisting of a head, a cylinder, and a threaded portion locks into the sleeve, the vertical mount, the spring, and the washer by engaging with the nut.
