  • Publication number: 20060282985
Abstract: A hinge for a notebook computer has a base, a seat, a first ring, a second ring, a positioning ring and a fastener. The base has a hole and a flange. The flange protrudes from the hole. The seat is mounted pivotally in the hole and has a circular tab and a limit. The limit radially extends from the circular tab and selectively abuts the flange to limit the rotating angle of the seat. The first and second rings are mounted between the seat and the base to reduce the friction. The positioning ring is mounted in the hole and has a first boss and a second boss. The fastener is mounted in the hole and has a first notch and a second notch. The first notch and the second notch selectively engage with the second boss and the first boss to position the seat.

  • Publication number: 20060285916
Abstract: A pivotal device has a sleeve and a shaft. The sleeve has at least one notch defined in the sleeve. The shaft has two opposite plane surfaces formed on the shaft and two arcuate surfaces formed respectively on the shaft adjacent to the corresponding plane surfaces whereby the arcuate surfaces selectively engage the at least one notch. The sleeve is mounted securely on a chassis of a laptop. The shaft is mounted securely on a cap of the laptop. When the cap is rotated relative to the chassis, the shaft is rotated relative to the sleeve. The notch engages one of the arcuate surfaces so the cap is closed without collision.

  • Publication number: 20060278796
Abstract: A hinge mounted between a cover and a base of a notebook has a base bracket having a mounting hole, a cover bracket having a stationary hole, a limiting spacer and a pintle. The limiting spacer is mounted securely on one side of the base bracket and has a mounting hole and a limiting flange. The pintle has a proximal end mounted securely in the stationary hole of the cover bracket, a distal end mounted rotatably through the mounting hole of the limiting spacer and the mounting hole of the base bracket, and a head formed near the proximal end. The head has a limiting protrusion selectively abutting a front end or a rear end of the limiting flange to keep the cover of the notebook in position when the cover being closed or opened and to prevent the base bracket from resulting stress concentration.

  • Publication number: 20060254027
Abstract: A hinge has a hollow sleeve and a shaft. The sleeve has a first portion and a second portion respectively formed in a first end of the sleeve, and a first fastener formed in a second end of the sleeve. The shaft has a head formed in a first end of the shaft and a second fastener formed in a second end of the shaft. The first fastener is mounted securely in a chassis of a device and the second fastener is mounted securely in a cover of the device. The head is rotated relative to the sleeve when the cover is rotated relative to the chassis. With the friction between the sleeve and the head, the cover can be positioned at any angle as desired relative to the chassis of the device.

  • Publication number: 20060236504
Abstract: A hinge has a sleeve and a shaft and is mounted between a cover and a base of an electrical device. The sleeve is hollow, is attached to the base and has an internal diameter. The shaft is attached to the cover, is mounted pivotally in the sleeve and has a hollow torsion rod. The torsion rod has an external diameter, an opening end and multiple slots. The external diameter of the torsion rod is bigger than the internal diameter of the sleeve to provide friction. The slots are formed in the torsion rod without communicating with the opening end to provide uniform friction. Because the torsion rod is hollow to provide spaces for the torsion rod to be deformed, the torsion rod maintains its shape. Therefore the torsion rod provides uniform friction with the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7124473
Abstract: A hinge for a notebook includes an L-shaped seat with a barrel. A pintle has a shaft extending in the barrel of the seat. A first tube, a sleeve and a second tube are in turn mounted on the shaft. The first tube and second tube are securely received in the barrel and each has a stop formed at a respective end facing the sleeve. The sleeve has two arcuate segments respectively formed at two ends and corresponding to the stops of the tubes. Thus, the sleeve can be rotated along with the shaft about the first and second tubes until one arcuate segment of the sleeve abuts the corresponding stop. Whereby, a user can raise the display with a small force to separate the display from the body and a large force to completely raise and position the display.

  • Patent number: 6983514
Abstract: A pivot hinge for a portable electronic device is disclosed. A base plate with a pivot tube is fixed on the main unit of the portable electronic device, and a locating bracket is fixed on the movable display panel. A shaft is inserted through the pivot tube, exposing the angular section from the other end of the pivot tube. A locking piece, a spring, and a ring are sequentially inserted over the angular section to complete the spring assembly. The interlocking of the tooth and notch enables the movable display panel to be placed in the horizontal direction over the main unit. A middle section of the shaft and the pivot tube are closely mated only when two plain facets respectively formed on the shaft and the pivot tube are matched up in the rotation of the shaft, thus abrasion damage is significantly reduced.
