Certain embodiments include a dual operation system that receives and processes control signals from two controllers, e.g., a first controller and a second controller, and outputs a control signal to a UAV on-board pilot system to operate the UAV. In some embodiments, the dual operation system may override control signals from the first controller with the control signals received from the second controller. Further, the dual operation system may respond to various conditions when control signals from one of the controllers are lost or unstable, enabling an on-board pilot system to take over control of the UAV.
