  • Patent number: 6117358
Abstract: A rapid bleaching process for cellulosic materials such as cotton and cotton blends. The bleaching liquor includes a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, potassium hydroxide and a stabilizer combined with controlled time and temperature to produce a rapid bleach in about 10 minutes or less. The resulting textile goods are soft, absorbent, mote-free with a Hunter Scale Whiteness Value of greater than about 110 and less than about 0.65% extractable solids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 14, 1999
Date of Patent: September 12, 2000
    Assignee: Surry Chemicals, Inc.
    Inventor: Sherman H. Sheppard

  • Patent number: 5723064
Abstract: A silicate-free liquid composition for use in bleaching cellulosic compositions, including cotton and cotton blended fabrics, comprised of hydrogen peroxide, potassium hydroxide, and optionally, a stabilizer which may be a magnesium salt formed from a mixture of magnesium oxide and citric acid.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5527361
Abstract: A rapid, low temperature bleaching process for cellulosic materials such as cotton and cotton blends. The bleaching liquor includes a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, potassium hydroxide and a stabilizer combined with controlled time and temperature to produce a rapid bleach in between about 12 and 16 minutes. The resulting textile goods are soft, absorbent, mote-free with a Hunter Scale Whiteness Value of about 100 and less than about 0.75% extractable solids.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5487283
Abstract: A conventional tunnel-type continuous batch washer modified for use as a commercial bleaching machine. The washer is modified by (1) lowering the rotational oscillation angle and speed of the machine's inner drum structure relative to its normal washing settings; (2) altering the water counterflow positioning and characteristics; (3) maintaining the water in the various inner drum section modules at essentially identical, relatively high levels; and (4) modifying the bath temperature characteristics of the machine. When utilized as a commercial bleaching machine the modified tunnel washer has a prescour zone disposed at its inlet end, a bleach zone downstream of the prescour zone and into which a hydrogen peroxide bleaching solution is injected, a finish zone disposed at its outlet end and into which a softening agent is injected, and a water-only rinse zone positioned between the bleach and finish zones.
