Publication number: 20240079784Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with an antenna having a resonating element and a light source module mounted to a flexible printed circuit and a metal cowling. The module may emit light through a rear housing wall. The printed circuit may be interposed between the metal cowling and a conductive support plate in the rear housing wall. The printed circuit may include a ground trace coupled to the resonating element. A dimpled pad may couple the ground trace to the support plate. Compressive foam may be used to exert a force against the flexible printed circuit that presses the dimpled pad against the conductive support plate. The ground trace and the dimpled pad may form a return path to ground for the resonating element. The dimpled pad may occupy less height within the device than other structures such as metal springs.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Han Wang, Victor C. Publication number: 20240079786Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with peripheral conductive housing structures, a first antenna, and a second antenna. A gap may divide the housing structures into a first segment forming an arm of the first antenna and a second segment forming an arm of the second antenna. A first feed terminal may be coupled to the first segment and a second feed terminal may be coupled to the second segment. Switchable components may be coupled in parallel between the first and second feed terminals across the gap. The switchable components may be adjusted to tune the frequency response of the first and/or second antenna. The switchable components may have a first state in which only the first feed terminal feeds the first antenna and may have a second state in which both the first and second feed terminals feed the first antenna.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Han Wang, Aobo Li, Victor C Lee, Yuancheng Xu, Ahmed Ali Abdelhaliem Nafe, Enrique Ayala Vazquez, Yiren Wang, Yuan Tao, Christopher Q Ma, Zhiheng Zhou, Sherry Cao, Dale T Morgan, Timothy L Stickles, Hao Xu, Hongfei Hu, Mattia Pascolini

Patent number: 9720890Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for rendering an assessment item. A document encoded in a markup language is received. The document includes data that relates to at least one of an appearance and content of an assessment item, and the document includes a reference to a content file. The content file is retrieved, where the content file includes computer-executable instructions for generating an interactive graphical representation for display on a display device. The interactive graphical representation includes one or more features with which a user interacts to respond to the assessment item. The computer-executable instructions are executed based on the data of the document to generate the interactive graphical representation. Data generated based on user manipulation of the one or more features is received. The data generated from the user manipulation is processed to generate a modified graphical representation responsive to the assessment item.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2014Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: Educational Testing ServiceInventors: Mankit Lee, Sherry Wang, Kenneth H. Patent number: 9225393Abstract: Systems and methods for determining whether a companion communication device is beyond a proximity of a primary communication device are provided. In some aspects, a system includes an analysis module configured to determine whether a wireless transaction between the primary communication device and the companion communication device is at a conclusion. The system also includes a communications module configured to emit a sensing signal based on the determination of whether the transaction is at the conclusion. The sensing signal is insufficient to elicit a response from the companion communication device. The system also includes a detection module configured to detect a present parameter associated with the emitted sensing signal. The analysis module is configured to determine a parameter change between the present parameter and a reference parameter, and to determine whether the companion communication device is beyond the proximity of the primary communication device based on the parameter change.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2012Date of Patent: December 29, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Steven Hall, Ash Kapur, Sherry Wang Smith, Robert Castle
