    Abstract: An adapter insert (10) for forming the operative connection between the threaded upper portion (51) of a gear shift rod (50) and the apertured skirt (101) of a gear shift knob (100) wherein, the adapter insert (10) includes a hollow machined aluminum cylindrical collar member (20) having a threaded interior (22) adapted to engage the threaded upper portion (51) of a gear shift rod (50) and further having a plurality of extreme peripheral recesses (23) that are adapted to be engaged by a locking set screw (80) that is threadedly engaged with the apertured skirt (101) of the gear shift knob (100).
