  • Patent number: 10968105
Abstract: Methods of pyrolytically producing carbons comprising graphene sheets at temperatures below 800° C. are disclosed. The graphene sheets, which are not substantially stacked, are formed by templating on hexagonal metal oxides, for example. Extensive stacking of the graphene sheets, which would lead to formation of graphite, is avoided at the low temperatures employed. Also provided are methods of producing heavily nitrogen doped graphene comprising carbons. Methods of using graphene and heavily nitrogen doped graphene are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 2017
Date of Patent: April 6, 2021
Assignee: Board of Regents, The University of Texas System
Inventors: Adam Heller, Joo-Woon Lee, David Eisenberg, Keith A. Friedman, Sheryl Coffman
