  • Patent number: 5254195
Abstract: A process for preparing a moisture exchange element which comprises impregnating a substrate made of organic or inorganic fiber with an aqueous impregnating solution containing colloidal silica, an acid and a metallic cation; drying and gelatinizing the impregnating solution deposited on the impregnated substrate is disclosed. The absorbent formed on the substrate after the impregnating solution is dried has a pore size of about 60-70 .ANG., thus allowing the moisture exchange element of the present invention to provide improved moisture adsorbing/desorbing ability.

  • Patent number: 5059724
Abstract: Process for selective synthesis of methyl isobutyl ketone by reacting in vapor phase or vapor/liquid phase acetone and hydrogen, e.g. in 0.5-3:1 molar ratio at 150.degree.-300.degree. C. and 1-30 atm., in the presence of a modified palladium-containing ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst, e.g. of 0.05-5% Pd content, as porous crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst having a 15-700:1 silica to alumina ratio, e.g. at a weight hourly space velocity of 0.5-8 hr.sup.-1, the catalyst being prepared by treating a completely acidic ZSM-5 zeolite sequentially with alkali metal cations and palladium ions and then activating the resultant zeolite in a reducing atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4801752
Abstract: The present invention relates to a vapor phase process for the production of N-alkyl and N,N-dialkylaniline by alkylation of aniline with an alcohol, preferably methanol and ethanol, in the presence of a ZSM-5 catalyst. A modified ZSM-5 catalyst has the advantage of high selectivity for N-alkylation while suppressing the formation of undesired by-products, such as toluidines. The molar ratio of silica to alumina in the catalyst is from about 20:1 to 700:1 and preferably from about 30:1 to 200:1. The silica-alumina may be modified with alkali metal, alkali earth metal or transition metal ions, preferably cesium, potassium, magnesium and iron, to form the finished catalyst. The reactants are contacted in the presence of the catalyst at a temperature of from about 300.degree. to 500.degree. C., at a pressure of from about 1 to 3 atmospheres, and at a molar ratio of alcohol to aniline of from about 1 to 6. The feed rates expressed as weight hourly space velocity (g feed/g catalyst/hour) are broadly from about 0.
