  • Publication number: 20250178321
Abstract: A coextruded multi-layer biodegradable composite film was primed either in-line or off-line to form moisture-resistant anchoring structure for EVOH/PHOH barrier coating using primer coating including waterborne polyethyleneimine dispersions and waterborne polyester dispersions. The primed bioplastic composite film was then coated with EVOH/PVOH solution barrier coating. The coated composite film was then metallized through a process of vapor deposition of Aluminum metal in a metallizer chamber. The metallized films made with a process of off-line priming have O2TR in the range of 1.9 to 4.5 cc/m2/day, and MVTR in the range of 0.1 to 0.4 g/m2/day; The metallized films made with a process of in-line priming have O2TR in the range of 0.63 to 1.04 cc/m2/day, and MVTR in the range of 0.027 to 0.075 g/m2/day.

  • Publication number: 20250058549
Abstract: A coextruded multi-layer compostable film comprises a core layer, a first cap layer and a second cap layer. The core layer comprises PLA resin, PHA resin and modifier X. The modifier X comprises migratory additives such as slip agents, nucleating agent, plasticizers, hydrolytic promoters, enzymes and fillers or mixtures thereof. The cap layers comprise at least 60 wt % TUV-certified home compostable composition. The content of migratory components in the cap layers is less than 0.5 wt % of the total weight of the cap layer, more preferably, less than 0.1 wt % of the total weight of the cap layer, more preferably, no migratory additives in the cap layers. The first cap layer has direct contact to the surface of the first chilled drum and the second cap layer has direct contact to the surface of the second chilled drum. In casting of a film, plate-out does not form on the surface of the chilled drums. The cap layers effectively prevent forming plate-out on the surface of processing equipment.

  • Patent number: 12103281
Abstract: Multi-layer biaxially oriented compostable composite film with a sealant layer formulation has improved heat seal initiation temperature, enhanced plateau seal strength, and broadened heat seal temperature range, while optical clarity is maintained, and film modulus (noise) is reduced. The film includes a core layer comprising a PLA-rich biodegradable composite resin, and a heat sealable layer comprising 20 to 60 wt % amorphous polylactic acid resin, and 40 to 80 wt % flexible compostable polymeric modifier Y having a glass transition temperature of Tg?0° C. and a melting temperature of 56° C.?Tm?90° C. Specifically, the flexible compostable polymeric modifier includes 20 to 70 wt % polybutylene succinate-co-adipate (PBSA) copolymer and 5 to 35 wt % polycaprolactone as a promoter of low heat seal initiation temperature (SIT) and hermeticity.
