A splicer splices a trailing end of the second packaging material to a leading end of the rolled article and a winder winds the leading end of the rolled article and the second packaging material around the periphery of the rolled article. A gusseting device gussets the pair of packaging materials along the sides of the rolled article.

    Abstract: A bar code printing apparatus includes a rotary. encoder for outputting encoder pulses in two different phases. The direction in which film is transported is discriminated by the encoder pulses and indicated by a forward direction pulse or a reverse direction pulse indicated for a predetermined length of transported film. A direction discriminating circuit comprises a clock pulse generator for generating clock pulses at a frequency higher than that at which the encoder pulse is output, a delay circuit for slightly delaying the clock pulse, a first latch circuit for latching one of the encoder pulses in synchronism with the clock pulse to output a transportation signal; a second latch circuit for outputting a latch condition signal; and two AND gates, each connected to the first and second latch circuits and the delay circuit, for outputting a forward direction pulse and a reverse direction pulse, respectively.

    Abstract: In a web winder for winding a web strip on a core, the web strip is brought into contact with the core at a predetermined position. The web strip is cut in such a position that the length of the portion of the web strip between the leading end and the predetermined position is slightly shorter than the length of the periphery of the core. The leading end portion of the web strip is applied to the circumferential surface of the core, and a wrapping roller is applied on the leading end portion of the web strip to press it against the core. Then the wrapping roller is rotated along the core toward said predetermined position by a predetermined angle with the web strip intervening between the core and the wrapping roller.

A folding member is located on the side more forward than the feed roller with respect to the direction, along which the wrapping material is fed. The folding member is supported such that the space between the folding member and the opposed end faces of the roll varies periodically.

    Abstract: A slitter slits a wide web into narrow strips by at least one slitting blade mounted on a shaft member which extends in the transverse direction of the wide web while the wide web is fed in the longitudinal direction thereof. The slitter is provided with a slitting width changing system which has a slitting blade holder which holds the slitting blade and is fitted on the shaft member to be rotatable about the shaft member between a released position in which it can be slid along the shaft member in the longitudinal direction of the shaft member and a locked position in which it is fixed to the shaft member not to slide along the shaft member. A slitting blade shift mechanism rotates the slitting blade holder to the released position, slides it along the shaft member to a position determined according to a desired slitting width, and rotates it to the locked position.

An indexing plate is rotatable about a substantially horizontal rotational axis and supports the magazine casing assembling chucks at regular angular intervals about the rotational axis so that the longitudinal axis of said cylindrical surface is held horizontal. The indexing plate is intermittently rotated by an angle equal to the angular interval, thereby successively stopping each magazine casing assembling chuck at a plurality of stations.
