  • Patent number: 5133313
Abstract: An engine cylinder block includes lower and upper cylinder block portions which are fastened together by bearing cap fastening bolts and cylinder block fastening bolts. The engine cylinder block is provided with a baffle plate, for separating a crankcase from an oil pan. The baffle plate is fastened to the engine cylinder block by the cylinder block fastening bolts. Bearing cap fastening bolts are arranged in a row parallel to an axis of rotation of the crankshaft at each side of a row of bearing caps. The cylinder block fastening bolts, each of which is located between adjoining bearing caps, are arranged in a row parallel to the axis of rotation of the crankshaft on each side of the row of bearing caps.

  • Patent number: 5131357
Abstract: A V-type engine cylinder block includes a mounting pedestal, integrally formed with the block in a V-shaped space between two cylinder banks and interconnecting the cylinder banks. A top wall is secured to the mounting pedestal and extends over almost the entire length of the V-shaped space in a lengthwise direction of the cylinder block. A plurality of bosses are formed with internal threads for securing a bracket, for mounting the cylinder block onto a car body, to one end wall of the cylinder block by bolts. The mounting pedestal and bosses are interconnected by ribs integrally formed with the cylinder block.

  • Patent number: 5069266
Abstract: A method and device for making a cylinder block includes a plurality of cylinder liners with flange portions respectively arranged side by side and extending in one direction. Each of the cylinder liners being casted together with a light metal to form a cylinder bore of an engine. The method includes the steps of disposing the cylinder liners within a cavity in a side by side relationship with one another with each of the cylinder liners being held by a core for forming the cylinder bore, forming a material holding section above the flange portions of the two cylinder liners adjacent to each other so as to communicate the two cylinder liners with each other therethrough, introducing a molten material of the light metal into the cavity for making the cylinder block, and removing a solidified material of the light metal in the material holding section. A high quality cylinder block product can thus be obtained.

  • Patent number: 4957079
Abstract: An overhead camshaft structure for a double overhead camshaft engine having at least three in-line cylinders and two camshafts which are formed with series of pairs of cam lobes and series of camshaft journals, respectively, and are operatively connected with each other by helical gears comprises a thrust collar formed on each camshaft, a thrust bearing formed with a thrust restrictive groove consisting of an upper half and a lower half, narrower than the upper half, for receiving therein the thrust collar, and an oil passage consisting of a radial passage portion penetrating through the thrust collar and an axial passage portion formed in each camshaft for allowing oil to pass up to each cam lobe and camshaft journal for lubrication. The radial passage is directed in parallel with a straight line connecting an axial centerline of rotation of each said camshaft and a juncture of a valve opening ramp of said cam lobe adjacent to said thrust collar.

  • Patent number: 4947812
Abstract: A positive crankcase ventilation system for a V-type internal combustion engine has elongated first and second cylinder banks provided with first and second rows of cylinders offset, respectively, in a lengthwise direction to each other, thereby forming a dead corner on one end of each cylinder bank. A series of reinforcing bulk heads for reinforcing a series of main bearings holding a crankshaft divide a crankcase into a series of crankcase chambers. Each crankcase chamber is provided with a bottom opening and vent holes formed in the bulk head. An air introduction passage is provided by the side of and at the middle of each row of cylinders in the cylinder block for introducing filtered air into and through the crankcase and oil return passages are formed in each dead corner.

  • Patent number: 4915066
Abstract: A V-type DOHC engine has first and second banks. The end of the cylinder row in the first bank on one end of the engine retracts from that of the cylinder row in the second bank. A first camshaft in each bank is driven by the crankshaft by way of a first transmission mechanism which is disposed on said one end of the engine, and the first and second camshafts in each bank are connected by a second transmission mechanism which is disposed between the first transmission mechanism and the cylinder row of the bank. The end portion of the first camshaft in the first bank on said one end of the engine is supported by a pair of bearings one disposed between the first and second transmission mechanisms and the other disposed between the second power transmission mechanism and the cylinder row in the first bank. The end portion of the second camshaft in the first bank on said one end of the engine is supported by a bearing disposed between the second transmission mechanism and the cylinder row in the first bank.
