  • Publication number: 20060012904
Abstract: A magnetic disk of a magnetic disk device includes a flat disk-shaped substrate having a center hole and recording regions provided individually on obverse and reverse surfaces of the substrate. Each of the recording regions includes a data region pattern having a patterned magnetic material shape and a plurality of servo region patterns arranged in given phases in the circumferential direction of the substrate. The servo region patterns of the recording region on the obverse side of the substrate and the servo region patterns of the recording region on the reverse side are shifted in phase from one another.

  • Patent number: 6914755
Abstract: A disk unit has a voice coil motor to oscillate a suspension arm mounted at the leading end of a head with respect to a disk. The voice coil motor has a voice coil integrally attached to the tail end of the suspension arm, a magnet to cause a magnetic field to act on the voice coil, and a pair of yokes provided in such a positional relationship that the voice coil and magnet are sandwiched therebetween. At least one yoke has a roughly fan-shaped main body and a plate piece portion provided in a condition extended from one end side of the main body. After the formation of the main body and plate piece portion by press working, the yoke is formed by folding the plate piece portion on the main body.

  • Patent number: 6765762
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a disk drive that has heads and a loading/unloading mechanism including a parking ramp. The parking ramp is so structured that it is likely to contact the outermost area of a disk, never contacting or hitting the loading/unloading area of the disk, when the disk drive receives an external shock. The outermost area of the disk remains unused to record data or park the heads.

  • Patent number: 5995322
Abstract: In a hard disk drive, the leading end portion of a main FPC is fixed to the bearing assembly of a carriage assembly. A plurality of connection pads are formed on the leading end portion in sets corresponding to the number of magnetic heads. The connection pads of each set are arranged in a straight line at predetermined intervals. The connecting end portion of a head FPC fixed to the surfaces of each arm and each suspension of the carriage assembly has a plurality of second electrodes pads. These second electrode pads have the same arrangement as that of the connection pads of a corresponding set. The second electrode pads are stacked and soldered on the connection pads of the corresponding sets.

  • Patent number: 5886858
Abstract: A main FPC comprises a board body having a conductor pattern thereon. An extended end portion of the board body includes a junction, which is provided with a large number of connecting pads, and first and second extension sections extending in opposite directions from the junction. A reinforcing plate is stuck on the back of the extension sections and the junction. A mounting section that extends at right angles to the junction is formed by bending the fist and second extension sections and part of the reinforcing plate. Apertures are formed in the mounting section, and the mounting section is fixed to a carriage assembly by being clamped together with a bearing section of the carriage assembly that is passed through the apertures.

  • Patent number: 5768051
Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus includes a housing having a sealed spaced between a base and a cover plate. An electric motor is situated within the housing. The electric motor includes a shaft extending between the base and the cover plate, a rotor situated coaxially around the shaft, and a rolling bearing situated between the rotor and the shaft. A magnetic recording medium is supported on the rotor. The rotor has a seal portion interposed between the cover plate and the rolling bearing. The seal portion includes a first surface located near the outer peripheral surface of the shaft and defining a first gap between the first surface itself and the outer peripheral surface of the shaft and a second surface located near the cover plate and defining a second gap between the second surface itself and the cover plate. The first and second gaps communicate with each other to form a labyrinth seal between the space and the rolling bearing.
