  • Patent number: 5317549
Abstract: An information recording and reproducing apparatus employs a magneto-optical disk including a main information recording area wherein plural pieces of main information can be recorded and a TOC area wherein control information related to each piece of main information can be recorded. When a reproducing operation cannot be performed from the TOC area, it is checked whether or not any pieces of control information exist, for example, by detecting an amplitude of a reproduced signal. Or, whether or not a recording or reproducing function of the apparatus works properly may be checked by, for example, a method of test writing and reproduction. As a result, whether or not the magneto-optical disk is a blank disk can be accurately determined. Further, when the disk is determined to be a blank disk, distinctive information indicating a blank disk is recorded in a predetermined portion of the TOC area. Thereafter, upon loading the disk, the disk is promptly determined to be a blank disk.

  • Patent number: 5315571
Abstract: An information recording and reproducing device has a first recording clock generation circuit which generates a clock based on pre-recorded information on a magneto-optical disk, a second recording clock generation circuit and a switching circuit The switching circuit selects a first recording clock when recording information is of discrete information and selects a second recording clock when recording information is of successive information. Moreover, in the present device, a first reading clock is used as well as a second clock as a clock for reading out the reproduced data from the magneto-optical disk, which had been once stored in memory. The second reading clock having a reference frequency is generated by a second clock generation circuit and is used for reading out successive information such as music information.

  • Patent number: 5142521
Abstract: A recording/reproducing device performs the recording/reproduction on a recording medium having an information recording area and a table of contents area. The recording medium is provided with guiding grooves that snake in cycles corresponding to values of absolute addresses. The device divides the information recording area into a plurality of domains. Each domain corresponds to a single sampling frequency with respect to the information being recorded. An electromagnet and an optical head record information in the domain that corresponds to its sampling frequency and records additional information concerning the division in the table of contents. A spindle motor drives the disk which is adjusted such that the velocity of the disk is changed for each domain during recording and reproduction. A demodulator obtains the absolute addresses through demodulation by comparing frequencies determined from the snaking cycles of the guiding grooves with a reference frequency.

  • Patent number: 5083301
Abstract: An optical card recording and reproducing device including an optical head for emitting a light beam spot to the optical card having a plurality of parallel data tracks to which data is recorded; a transfer system for transferring the optical card and/or the optical head; and a track number confirmation means for confirming the track number recorded in the address data area in the data track of the optical card. The optical card recording and reproducing device also includes a transfer stopping means for stopping the optical head when an incorrect track number is deleted. The system minimizes the relative transfer distance between the optical card and the optical head, and at the same time, the total relative transfer distance of the optical card and/or the optical head when confirming the track number more than twice. Thus, the total time required for track number confirmation can be greatly shortened.

Abstract: A magneto-optic storage media is provided with two defect information blocks for storing information concerning a defect. At the time of reproduction, both the blocks are read, and it is determined whether or not the reading operation is normal. • Patent number: 4868922
Abstract: A data modulation/demodulation system reproducing data that is divided and recorded in a plurality of blocks on a recording medium. The data modulation/demodulation system utilizes the steps of modulating the data by adding specified data bit patterns to the data bits of each block and reproducing the data which have been obtained by adding specified code bit patterns. The bit rows are independently demodulated by demodulation clocks which differ in phase. The demodulation bit pattern of the above code bit pattern which was added at the time of recording and the bit pattern which was demodulated by the different modulation clocks are compared with each other to determine which data is wrong. The correct demodulated data is selected according to this comparison and transmitted.
