  • Patent number: 4438505
Abstract: A portable electronic dictionary and language interpreter includes a control circuit for conducting retrieval of one or more full-length words on the basis of a non full-length form entered by an input device. The one or more complete words are preliminarily stored in a memory such as a read-only memory (ROM). The control circuit is activated by a search key provided on the main frame of the portable device. According to the repetition of the actuation of the search key, a plurality of full-length words are successively developed from the memory and then indicated in a display. In another form of the present invention, another type of search key may be provided so that the plurality of full-length words can be successively developed and then indicated.

  • Patent number: 4393462
Abstract: An electronic translator comprises means for providing pronunciation of an input word or words entered. There are further provided means for providing pronunciation of a translated word or words equivalent to the input word or words. If the input words contain a special word which is pronounced in different ways dependent on the following word, there is additionally provided means for detecting the input of such a special word and for changing the pronunciation of such a special word depending on the following word.

  • Patent number: 4381551
Abstract: An electronic translator is characterized in that similarity detection circuit is provided for detecting similarity between letters within a first word and those within a second word in the same language as the first word, with the object of locating a second word stored in memory having letters which are similar to the letters of the first word. In another form of the present invention, the first word is entered containing at least one Arabic numeral to obtain a translated word in a different language. For this purpose, the memory has a plurality of translated words containing the at least one Arabic numeral.

  • Patent number: 4373192
Abstract: An electronic language interpreter is characterized by having a display device for displaying second words represented in a second language equivalent to a first word in a first language. When the data length of the second words exceeds the capacity of digits contained within the display device, the second words are displayed with shifting or running of the overall data on the display device. Separating means are associated with the display device for separating the second words in response to the presence of a particular mark such as a comma, a part of speech etc. The particular mark is allotted in a certain portion between the second words.

  • Patent number: 4355370
Abstract: A portable electronic dictionary and language interpreter comprises an input device for entering a word wherein the leading character is represented as a capital character and the remaining one or more characters are represented as small characters, and a translator for memorizing the word and a translated word equivalent thereto. The word is contained within the translator in a form wherein the leading character is written as a small character and there is contained therein an indication representing that the small character of the word stored in the translator should be changed to the corresponding capital character. A control device is provided for permitting the translator to generate the word and the equivalent translated word, the word being represented in a form therein the leading character thereof is written as a capital character and the remaining one or more characters are written as small characters.

  • Patent number: 4306294
Abstract: A new and effective combination is disclosed wherein both a calculator and an electronically tuning radio receiver are governed by common control circuitry and a microprocessor implements the major portion of the calculator and also implements or governs the electronically tuning radio receiver and a digital timekeeper. For example, it is possible for the operator to listen to a radio program of a desired frequency and continue operating the calculator whenever he likes, while the calculator is in use. If the radio receiver is provided with a time switch function, then it is possible to obtain on-time information and immediately execute calculations on the one-time information obtained, thus enhanceing maneuverability.
