  • Patent number: 4902341
Abstract: A method for producing titanium alloy by the reduction of titanium tetrachloride and alloy components with a reducing metal agent, capable of continuously producing titanium alloy on an industrial scale. The temperature and pressure of the reaction zone for the reduction are kept above a melting point of the titanium alloy and above the vapor pressure of the reducing metal agent at that temperature respectively, so that the reducing metal agent and its chloride may be kept in a molten state but without boiling.

  • Patent number: 4877445
Abstract: A method for producing metal by the reduction of a metal halide by a reducing metal agent capable of continuously producing homogeneous metal of high purity. In the method, particles of the same metal as the metal to be produced are charged into a reaction vessel and the metal halide and the reducing metal agent both in vapor form, are ejected upwards into the reaction vessel from its lower portion to form a fluidized bed of the metal particles in the vessel. The reducing reaction between the two vapors takes place on the surface of the metal particles at a temperature below the melting point of the metal product and at a pressure below a vapor pressure of each of the reducing metal agent and the metal halide at that temperature, resulting in depositing and growing the metal product on the surface of the particles.

  • Patent number: 4055621
Abstract: A process for obtaining chlorine and iron oxide from iron chloride by adding iron oxide to iron chloride prepared by chlorinating iron-containing titanium ore, in an amount of above 10 percent by weight of the resulting mixture, charging the mixture in solid phase into a fluidizing roasting furnace for oxidizing roasting, extracting the overflow from the fluidized bed in the furnace, and charging the extract into another secondary furnace for additional oxidizing roasting. The iron oxide thus obtained is cooled and recycled to the fluidized bed in the primary fluidizing roasting furnace for the purpose of controlling the reaction temperature in the furnace.

  • Patent number: 3966892
Abstract: Titanium dioxide is produced by a continuous gaseous oxidation of titanium tetrachloride or a titanium tetrachloride containing gas with oxygen or an oxygen containing gas, the improvement wherein both of said gases are separately preheated and the titanium tetrachloride or titanium tetrachloride containing gas is fed downwardly into the reactor from a burner equipped with a cooling jacket disposed at the upper part of the reactor and the oxygen or oxygen containing gas is fed downwardly through the burner into the reactor for reaction with titanium tetrachloride; and simultaneously, an inert gas and inert refractory particles are injected from the lower part of the reactor toward the inner wall of the reactor so that the inert refractory particles are caused to rise upwardly as a suspension, and the upward flow of the suspension is counter-currently contacted with the downwardly flow of the reaction product so as to rapidly cool the reaction product, and wherein the inert refractory particles injected upward
