  • Publication number: 20030198939
Abstract: The present invention provides a simple method of producing osteoclasts from monocytes, a agent comprising monoclonal antibody to be used for the method, and a method for screening a ligand that induces differentiation of monocytes to osteoclasts. Differentiation of monocytes to osteoclasts can be induced in vitro by culturing isolated human peripheral blood monocytes in the presence of monoclonal antibody that binds to a portion of FRP-1 protein exposed on the surface of monocytes. Such a differentiation system can be utilized to isolate a ligand that binds to FRP-1 protein and induces differentiation of monocytes to osteoclasts.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 21, 2003
    Publication date: October 23, 2003
    Inventors: Yasuhiko Ito, Shigeomi Higuchi
