  • Patent number: 6571911
Abstract: A muffler including a long outlet pipe 20 having an exhaust gas inlet pipe portion 21, a return pipe portion 22, an exhaust gas outlet pipe portion 23, and two turnaround pipes 24, 25 for connecting the three pipe portions 21, 22, 23 together in series. These pipe portions 21, 22, 23 are arranged in parallel with one another along a longitudinal direction of a shell 2, and in such a manner that longitudinal axes 21L, 22L, 23L of the pipe portions are positioned at respective vertices of a triangle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 2001
Date of Patent: June 3, 2003
Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha
Inventors: Satoshi Watanabe, Shigeru Furudate, Tsuyoshi Ishii
  • Patent number: 6557343
Abstract: In a partition wall arrangement for an exhaust gas pipe section including a partition wall including a main plate member separating the pipe section into two longitudinal passages, a reinforcing plate member is placed over and attached to a major surface of the partition wall member in a part adjacent to the upstream edge of the main plate member so that an improved durability is achieved through elimination of membrane vibrations. By providing an edge cover on the upstream edge of the partition wall, the partition wall can be protected from the adverse influences of the heat from the exhaust gas, and is reinforced even further.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2001
Date of Patent: May 6, 2003
Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha
    Inventor: Shigeru Furudate
