    Abstract: A cleaning system for an electrostatic copying apparatus has a cleaning roller in pressure contact with a toner supporting member for removing residual toner therefrom. The cleaning roller is impressed with a bias voltage of polarity opposite to the electric charge held by the residual toner. The cleaning roller comprises an axle, a conductive elastic layer around the axle, and a thin porous film formed as an outer most layer over the elastic layer. The thin film is preferably made of polytetrafluorethylene and is a porous and soft film. The cleaning system also includes a discharging electrode arranged before the cleaning roller, and a scraper for removing toner adhering to the cleaning roller.

    Abstract: A cleaning device in which toner remaining on an image reproducing support through an electrostatic reproducing process is cleaned by a fur brush and then the toner having adhered to the fur brush is recovered by an electrically biased roller, the fur brush having a brush core formed of a conductive material and the brush core being grounded or biased with the polarity opposite to that of bias voltage applied to the roller. The fur brush is formed as a conductive brush and grounded through a non-linear resistance element. The fur brush is formed of a semiconductive material.

    Abstract: An electrostatic recording apparatus comprising an ion modulator, a driving circuit for transforming a first image signal into a second image signal and for applying said second image signal to the ion modulator, a member for forming electrostatic latent image, and a photon coupled isolator. A voltage of the second image signal is higher than a voltage of the first image signal. The first image signal is supplied to the driving circuit through the photon coupled isolator. The ion modulator is a multilayered ion modulator comprising a layer of insulating material, a continuous layer of conductive material and a segmented layer of conductive material on the other side of said insulating layer. Each segment of the segmented conductive layer is insulatively isolated from each other segment. The multilayered ion modulator has at least one of row of apertures formed therethrough. A segment of the segmented conduction layer is formed around each aperture.

    Abstract: A cleaning apparatus for a toner image retaining member of an electrophotographic copying machine includes an elastic cleaning blade for removing residual toner from the surface of the toner image retaining member, the elastic cleaning blade having two opposite ends, one end having a protuberance with a cleaning edge. A holder is arranged along a given axis for supporting the opposite end of the elastic cleaning blade and for disposing the cleaning edge in resilient contact against the surface of the toner image retaining member. The cleaning edge of the elastic cleaning blade is formed by a ridge line of the protuberance which is kept in resilient contact against the surface of the toner image retaining member by the holder. At least one of the electrodes being divided into such a plurality of blocks as has its one or plural openings electrically insulated at a close spacing across the aforementioned arranged openings and as are wired to receive electric signals from the aforementioned image signal generating unit, the common electrode being operative to control the flow of ions, which are directed toward a charge holder, if necessary, together with the control electrode in response to a bias voltage applied.

    Abstract: Improved method and apparatus for forming an electrostatic latent image on a recording medium by the simultaneous projection of an ion current and exposure to image light, in which a control grid for controlling the ion current has a plurality of layers, including a photoconductive layer, a conductive layer, and an insulating layer. A first bias voltage is applied to the conductive layer to form an electric field which directs the ion current toward the recording medium, and a second bias voltage, higher than the first bias voltage, forms a second electric field in the control grid for controlling passage of the ions. The recording medium is adapted to absorb the image light thereon.

The process comprises steps of electrically charging a photoconductive layer of an ion-beam controlling screen, exposing the photoconductive layer electrically charged to a first image information, disposing a recording medium having a photoconductive layer so as to oppose to the exposed photoconductive layer, and applying ions to the photoconductive layer of the recording medium through the screen to form an electrostatic latent image having a background of charged potential. The photoconductive layer of the recording medium in which the electrostatic latent image is formed is exposed to a second image information to produce a corrected electrostatic latent image.
