    Abstract: The invention is directed to simultaneously implement display by using the first and second liquid crystal display sections. While a voltage (1/2 V.sub.L) which is a half of a drive voltage V.sub.L supplied from the second drive power supply by the second liquid crystal driver is taken as a virtual ground, a voltage (1/4 V.sub.L) resulting from positively and negatively dividing by 4 the drive voltage V.sub.L is applied to each of electrodes of the second liquid crystal display section defined in the liquid crystal display panel. In a selected waveform, by applying a voltage which exceeds the saturation voltage of liquid crystals, to selected portions of the waveform, the liquid crystals are turned on. In a non-selected waveform, such a voltage is not applied. In the second liquid crystal display section, direct current component of the waveform of a signal supplied by the second liquid crystal driver is cut off by the direct current cutoff circuit.     Abstract: A composite roll for hot rolling wherein the outer layer portion of a composite roll comprises a steel comprised of, in terms of % by weight, 1.5 to 2.4% of C, 3 to 6% of V and 10 to 20% of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mo and W and optionally at least one element of 0.05 to 0.20% of Al and 0.02 to 0.10% of Ti as an inoculation material, with the balance comprising Fe and unavoidable impurities, the outer layer portion comprising a metallic structure which has a crystal grain diameter of 30 to 150 .mu.m and is surrounded by a eutectic carbide crystallized in the grain boundary or a metallic structure wherein a primary crystallized carbide is further dispersed and crystallized in a matrix structure of the crystal. It is excellent particularly in the surface roughening resistance.

    Abstract: An apparatus for dewatering primary dewatered sludge pieces conditioned with dewatering powders comprises: a first member having a recess and a path communicating with the recess, a fluid-tight diaphragm mounted over the recess thereby defining a fluid chamber with which the path communicates, a second member having a filtrate member, and a filter member provided over the filtrate chamber. At least one of the first member and the second member is mounted to bring them into fluid-tight contact with each other, and the primary dewatered sludge pieces into a cavity defined by the diaphragm and the filter member. A pressure fluid then is fed to the fluid chamber, thereby isostatically compressing the primary dewatered sludge pieces to remove the water contained therein without substantially destroying the inner structures of the primary dewatered sludge pieces. Because of this isostatic pressure exerted by the diaphragm, the sludge pieces are compressed highly uniformly, resulting in high dewatering efficiency.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively key-inputting a Kanji (Chinese and Japanese ideogram) in a Japanese sentence are disclosed. The operator keys-in a reading of a desired Kanji through a keyboard, and candidate Kanjis for that reading are displayed on a display screen so that the operator chooses a relevant Kanji for entry out of the displayed candidate Kanjis. In entering the reading of a Kanji, blocks which are in correspondence to character keys located in home positions of the keyboard and in the neighborhood thereof are displayed on the display screen and candidate Kanjis corresponding to the reading of the desired Kanji are displayed in the blocks. The operator then keys a character key corresponding to a relevant candidate Kanji displayed on the display screen.

    Abstract: In a press-rolling process for producing a metal tubular product, which comprises a pipe-forming procedure in which a square metal billet is fed into a rolling mill which consists of a pair of pressing rolls which have semi-circular grooves forming circular shape and which is provided with a plug held in the center line of the circular shape, according to the present invention, the press-rolling process is characterized in that a cavity is formed in the center portion of the forward surface of the billet before the pipe-forming procedure, the diameter of the cavity corresponding to 70% or more but less than 100% of the diameter of the plug and the volume of the cavity being equal to or more than the volume of a portion of the plug located in the inserting side of the billet from the axial center of the rolling mill.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a method for operating an electrophotographic copying apparatus having a latent image forming unit for forming an electrostatic latent image on a recording medium, a development unit for visualizing the electrostatic latent image with a developer containing toner and carrier to produce a visible toner image, and a fixing unit for fixing the toner image. In this operation method, the development unit is raced until the amount of charge on the toner in the developer reaches a predetermined level, and thereafter a usual electrophotographic copying procedure commences, whereby reduction in density of developed images during the initial operation of the electrophotographic copying apparatus can be prevented and developed images of high quality can be obtained.

A fluid operated telescopic cylinder is pivotally connected between the lower pivot of the slide member and a lower end portion of the robot housing for pivoting the robot arm structure at a desired angular position.
