  • Patent number: 4623584
Abstract: Expandable phenolic resin-coated composite beads comprise an aggregate having coated thereon a solid, expandable resin composition comprising a solid, phenolic resin initial condensation product, a foaming agent and, if necessary, a hardening agent. The expandable phenolic resin-coated composite beads provide composite cellular moldings in which the aggregates are uniformly dispersed in a phenolic resin-expanded layer and are firmly adhered to the expanded layer. The composite cellular moldings can be adhered to a face plate to form integral laminates.

  • Patent number: 4485863
Abstract: A control device is used in a car-mounted air-conditioner of the air mixing type, in which a portion of the cold air, obtained by passing air through an evaporator, is heated by a heater via an air mixing damper. The control device includes a pulse generator, which is supplied with the outputs of a temperature setting device and of a room temperature sensor both of which are provided in a car in which the air-conditioner is mounted. The control device provides an amplified multi-phase pulse signal, based on deviations of the outputs, to an intermittent driving device responsive for rotating the air mixing damper.

  • Patent number: 4454087
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing a substantially uniform thermoplastic foam extruded from an extruder, the molten thermoplastic resin having uniformly distributed therein a foaming agent. A cooling-mixer continuously receives the extruded mass of resin and foaming agent from the extruder and intimately mixes and substantially cools the mass. A substantially adiabatic zigzag mixer is connected to the cooling-mixer and divides the mass into a plurality of separate streams which are at least partially separated and recombined. A die is connected to the zigzag mixer and extrudes the uniformly cooled mass into a lower pressure zone to produce a substantially uniform thermoplastic foam.

  • Patent number: 3993721
Abstract: An improved process for preparing foamed articles of thermoplastic resin having a hard, mar-resistant surface that is flat and smooth and resembles natural wood, and an extrusion die therefor. In the process a softened thermoplastic is extruded through apertures of the extrusion die of the invention which is a fiered die having a resin discharge plate having a peripheral recessing portion and a protruding interior portion which are formed on the resin discharge plate by one or more step-ups. Each of the peripheral and interior portions of the resin discharge plate is provided with a plurality of apertures, the aperture density of the peripheral portion being greater than that of the interior portion. A longitudinally extending cooling frame is mounted adjacent the resin discharge plate and extends in the direction of extrusion to at least the forward face of the interior portion of the plate.
