  • Patent number: 8925161
Abstract: A readily burstable slide fastener for an inflatable device, such as a lifejacket, includes a first stringer, a second stringer and a slider slidably mounted on the second stringer. At a weakened region along the slide fastener coupling elements are omitted from each of the stringers so that when a bursting force is applied to this region the coupling elements adjacent thereto are disengaged. Coupling elements are omitted from the top of the first stringer so that when the slider is at the top of the coupling elements of the second stringer, the first stringer can disengage from the slider. When the slide fastener is fitted to an inflatable lifejacket, the stringers are separated completely when the lifejacket is inflated.

  • Publication number: 20120011684
Abstract: A readily burstable slide fastener 1 for an inflatable device, such as a lifejacket 101?, comprises a first stringer 3, a second stringer 5 and a slider 19 slidably mounted on the second stringer 5. At a weakened region 23 along the slide fastener 1 coupling elements 15 are omitted from each of the stringers 3, 5 so that when a bursting force is applied to this region 23 the coupling elements 15 adjacent thereto are disengaged. Coupling elements 15 are omitted from the top of the first stringer 3 so that when the slider 19 is at the top of the coupling elements 15 of the second stringer 5, the first stringer 3 can disengage from the slider 19. When the slide fastener 1 is fitted to an inflatable lifejacket 101?, the stringers 3, 5 are separated completely when the lifejacket 101? is inflated.

  • Patent number: 7337508
Abstract: In a zip fastener the elements (10) on one tape have a head which engages a shoulder (20) of an opposed element to limit out of plane movement. A small number of elements (30) have a head (38) which bears on a shoulder 46 when twisted in one direction but passes the shoulder (46) when twisted in the opposite direction to allow partial separation of the elements to create a point of weakness. The coupled elements can be peeled apart when sufficient pressure is applied to one side of the tape at the point of weakness, but the elements resist twisting when pressure is applied to the opposite side.

  • Publication number: 20040187277
Abstract: A fastener for an airbag cover, the fastener comprising first and second stringer tapes which are fixed to edges of an opening in the airbag cover. The stringer tapes each have a row of coupling elements mounted thereon, and these link together to connect the stringer tapes. The connection is strong within an area of coupling elements which have been connected, but is easily disengaged from the ends of a region of connected coupling elements. The fastener comprises holding means which hold the tapes together at a predetermined position in the middle region of the fastener. The holding means will release or displace under the force of the airbag expanding. When the airbag expands, e.g. during a car crash, the holding means allows the coupling elements to open, thus opening the fastener and allowing the airbag to expand outside the airbag cover.

  • Patent number: 6622351
Abstract: A slider for an airtight and watertight slide fastener, which guides a seal member and said slide fastener stably and smoothly and which is capable of obtaining excellent airtightness and watertightness. A body of the slider has an upper wing and a lower wing with flanges on both of right and left sides, respectively, connected by a guide post. A partition plate is arranged in the middle of the guide post to form an insertion path for a seal member on an upper side thereof and form an insertion path for a linear fastener element or a discrete fastener element on a lower side thereof. A protruding bar is integrally provided at a distal end of the partition plate toward the rear port. In the case of the linear fastener element, an element pressing portion is provided therein. This slider appropriately separates the seal member and the fastener elements and guides them to have good coupling state, so as to stably effect an airtight and watertight function.

  • Patent number: 6615458
Abstract: This invention provides a releasable bottom end stop for slide fastener which allows an insert pin thereof to be operated smoothly on being inserted into a semi-automatic/automatic stop slider. A slope for raising a locking pawl of an automatic or a semi-automatic stop mechanism provided on a slider when the insert pin is inserted into an inverse-opening type slider or an ordinary slider is provided obliquely so as to extend from a front end of the surface of an insert pin to a proximal end thereof. Additionally, a concave portion whose inlet is inclined for holding the locking pawl is provided over this slope. The inverse-opening slider is fitted in a stringer on a box pin side and another slider is also fitted such that it comes into contact with a top of the inverse-opening slider. If the insert pin disposed on another stringer is inserted with this condition, the locking pawl is raised by the slope so that the insert pin can be inserted smoothly and held in a stable condition.

  • Patent number: 6481068
Abstract: An inclined slope face portion is formed on a top face of a box member. This slope face portion has a downward gradient from a side wall of a box-pin-insertion hole up to a side wall of an insert-pin-insertion hole. The insert pin is inserted into the box member in which the box pin is inserted and fixed in a box-pin-insertion hole thereof. Then, when a rear end portion of a slider is brought into contact with the box member, the slider is inclined relative to the box member. Although conventionally, the insert pin was inserted into the insert-pin-insertion hole of the box member from just above the box member, this invention allows the insert pin to be inserted obliquely from above the box member. Therefore, the insertion operation can be carried out smoothly and easily. Thus, the slider is disposed in an inclined posture relative to a box member of the separable bottom stop assembly so as to achieve a smooth operation for inserting the insert pin.

  • Publication number: 20020062539
Abstract: The present invention provides a snap fastener which, when an engaging head engages an engaging hole portion, allows a disengagement operation for releasing the engagement therebetween to be carried out accurately. In a pair of the snap elements capable of engaging with or disengaging from each other freely in an opposing direction, one base plate has an engaging head while the other base plate has an engaging hole portion. Respective base portions of the base plates are attached on attached bodies. The base plate of any one of the snap elements has a grip portion, provided at the side opposite to the attached body such that it protrudes outward of the other base portion. The other snap element has a receiving portion which makes contact with the base portion of the one snap element.

  • Patent number: 6112376
Abstract: In a separable bottom stop assembly of a concealed slide fastener, U-shaped guide portions are respectively connected continuously to ends of inner side edge of a box pin and a separable pin both in a shape of a prism for guiding flanges of the box having at a front face thereof an opening portion. Flat support portions are connected continuously to outsides of the guide portions, and the guide portions and the support portions made of thermoplastic resin are integrally molded to bottom ends of fastener stringer tapes. The guide portions and the support portions connected continuously to the box pin and the separable pin are thin at their portions where the box is disposed and thick at their portions outside the thin portions. The thick portions of the support portions extend to one-side faces of the fastener tapes. The box pin can be inserted into and fixed to a box-pin-insertion hole of the box.

  • Patent number: 5913481
Abstract: In a separable slide fastener, a succession of discrete fastener elements molded on a pair of parallel connecting yarns at regular distances are folded individually in a U-shape about an inner edge of each of opposed fastener tapes and are attached by sewing threads. Several of the fastener elements are removed from a bottom end portion of each fastener tape by cutting the connecting yarns with corresponding part of the sewing threads remaining uncut as cores. Each of upper and lower legs of a lowermost one of said fastener elements is flatted to form a small-thickness portion. An insertion pin of a separable bottom stop assembly is attached to the bottom end portion of one fastener tape by clenching so as to hold the small-thickness portions and the cores, and a box pin is attached to the bottom end portion of the other fastener tape in the same manner.
