  • Patent number: 7021887
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for singulating a first work piece from a plurality of stacked work pieces, the plurality of stacked work pieces comprising a second work piece adjacent the first work piece. A stripping member is engageable against the second work piece. A lifting member is engageable with the first work piece and displaceable with respect to the stripping member between first and second positions. In the lifting member first position the first and second work pieces are stacked; in the lifting member second position the first and second work pieces are unstacked. After unstacking, a supporting member is moveable to engage the unstacked first work piece, selectively supporting the first work piece.

  • Publication number: 20030113200
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for presenting trays from a first plurality of stacked trays to a pick and place device for loading or unloading work pieces to or from the trays, and for subsequently restacking the trays to a second plurality of stacked trays. A handling device comprises a frame defining a tray loading zone receivingly engaging the first plurality of stacked trays for singulating the trays. The frame furthermore defines a tray unloading zone different from the tray loading zone receivingly engaging the trays for stacking with the second plurality of stacked trays. The frame furthermore defines a handling zone between the loading and unloading zones operatively presenting the singulated trays to the pick and place device. The handling device further comprises a singluating device in the tray loading zone adapted for separating the trays from the first plurality of stacked trays.

  • Publication number: 20030101693
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for folding a flap on a work piece. The apparatus comprises a central frame, and a reference surface supported by the frame operatively receivingly engaging the work piece. A positioning and folding device comprises a circular pin extendable over the reference surface and longitudinally moveable to abuttingly engage and position the work piece. An actuator rotates the pin between a first position and a second position. A tamping member extends from the pin and defines an abutting surface abuttingly engaging the work piece in the first position of the pin. A folding member extends from the distal end of the tamping member, and is clearingly angled away from the work piece in the first position of the pin. The folding member foldingly engages the flap in the second position of the pin. The pin maintains the abutting engagement against the work piece at the first and second positions and therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20030101691
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for sealing a bag enclosure around a work piece. The apparatus comprises a frame defining a reference surface adapted for supporting the bag and the work piece, wherein the bag is disposed around the work piece and open on a side. A sealing head is supported by the frame and moveable between a retracted position and an engaged position, whereat the engaged position the sealing head is adjacent the open portion of the bag. A conduit is supported by the frame and comprises a distal end insertable into the open side of the bag in the engaged position of the sealing head. A negative pressure source is fluidly connected to the conduit to impart a negative pressure to the distal end, drawing air out of the bag. A stretching member is supported by the frame so as to be insertable into an open end of the bag in the engaged position of the sealing head, and is moveable to stretch the open end of the bag taut.
