Patent number: 9756306Abstract: Artifact reduction method and apparatus, and image processing method and apparatus are provided. The artifact reduction apparatus includes a scaling-down unit, a buffer unit, an artifact detection unit, a scaling-up unit and a filter unit. The scaling-down unit scales down a resolution of a current original image frame to obtain a current low-resolution image frame. The artifact detection unit performs an artifact detection to the current low-resolution image frame to obtain low-resolution weights in accordance with a relation of the current low-resolution image frame and a previous low-resolution image frame provided by the buffer unit. The scaling-up unit scales up a number of the low-resolution weights to obtain a high-resolution weights. By using the high-resolution weights, the filter unit performs an image processing procedure to the current original image frame for reducing artifact of the current original image frame and obtaining an adjusted image frame.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2014Date of Patent: September 5, 2017Assignee: Novatek Microelectronics Corp.Inventors: Shih-Sung Wen, Chih-Chia Kuo

Patent number: 7724971Abstract: Image compression, decompression and motion detection methods are described. Two temporally adjacent frame images, a previous time frame and a current time frame, are compressed in round-off and averaging techniques. Next, according to the compressed data of two corresponding pixels of the two frame images, whether or not the pixel of the current time frame image is of a motion picture is detected. If the pixel is of a motion picture, the compressed pixel data of the previous time frame image is decompressed, and an overdrive process is performed on the decompressed pixel data and the original pixel data of the current time frame image to produce an overdrive output. If the pixel is not of a motion picture, an overdrive process is not performed.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2008Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd.Inventors: Juin-Ying Huang, Wen-Tse Tseng, Chien-Hsun Cheng, Shih-Sung Wen

Patent number: 7262818Abstract: A video system that performs TV signal decoding, deinterlacing, and de-motion-blurring for progressive scan flat panel display is introduced. The system embeds a frame buffer and a scaler for conducting format and resolution conversions for display panels of different sizes. The output of the scaler is sent to a de-motion-blur processor for reducing the blurriness due to the motion of image objects and the slow response time of flat panel display devices. The de-motion-blur processor gets the motion and noise indication signal from scaler or the pre-frame-buffer video processor. Based on the motion and noise information and the information of temporal difference, the de-motion-blur processor performs over driving for the display panel interface and improves the rising and falling response time of the flat panel display. The decoding, deinterlacing, and de-motion-blur processing share the same frame buffer controller so the entire system can be optimized in cost and performance.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 2004Date of Patent: August 28, 2007Assignee: Trumpion Microelectronic Inc.Inventors: Chun-Hsiung Chuang, Chien-Hsun Cheng, Shih-Sung Wen, Chi-Chuan Wang
