Abstract: A system for controlling the distance between a first moving vehicle and a second moving vehicle comprising: A distance sensor for measuring the distance between the first and second moving vehicles; A speed sensor for measuring the speed of the first moving vehicle; A speed control unit connected to the distance and speed sensors for determining a safe distance threshold as a function of the deceleration rate and speed; A notification unit connected to the speed control unit for notifying the driver of the first moving vehicle of any breach of the safe distance threshold; An authority alert unit connected to the speed control unit and to the traffic authorities via a wireless data network for alerting the traffic authorities of any violation of the safe distance threshold by the first moving vehicle, and a process for controlling the distance between a first moving vehicle and a second moving vehicle.
