  • Patent number: 10045151
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for triggering transmission bundling for participant wireless devices of an antenna system. An uplink signal may be received at an access node from a wireless device in communication with the access node. It may be detected that the wireless device is proximate to an antenna system in communication with one or more participant wireless devices, wherein the antenna system does not comprise the access node. It may be then determined that transmission bundling should be triggered for the participant wireless device based on the detecting. And the participating wireless devices may be instructed to perform transmission bundling.

  • Patent number: 9948428
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed that support the aggregation of acknowledgement messages and control messages. Advantageously, acknowledgement and negative acknowledgement indications for multiple client nodes are combined into a single aggregated message which is broadcast or multicast to the multiple client nodes. Based on unique identifiers assigned to each client node, client nodes are grouped such that the aggregated acknowledgement messages can be efficiently encoded to conserve both network capacity when they are transmitted, as well as processing capacity when they are parsed by the client nodes. If code division multiple access (CDMA) technology is used, the aggregated acknowledgment message can be transmitted without CDMA spreading to effectively broadcast or multicast it to multiple client nodes. A similar technique can be employed for the efficient broadcast or multicast of aggregated control messages.

  • Patent number: 9907004
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically controlling transition of a UE between operating modes based on a consideration of air interface congestion and interruption-sensitivity of communication. The UE operates by default in a first mode such as a circuit-switched-fallback (CSFB) mode. While so operating, a determination is made that the UE's serving air interface is threshold highly congested. In response, if the UE is not engaged in interruption-sensitive communication, the UE then transitions from operating in the first mode to operating in a second mode such as a non-CSFB mode (e.g., a single-radio LTE (SRLTE) mode).

  • Patent number: 9838912
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining a carrier for a wireless device. Data may be communicated between a wireless device and a wireless communication network over a first carrier. It may be determined whether the wireless communication network provides a fallback protocol for switching the wireless device from the first carrier to a second carrier. The wireless device may be instructed to communicate with the wireless communication network over the second carrier when it is determined that the wireless communication network does not provide the fallback protocol.

  • Patent number: 9832688
Abstract: Embodiments are described that may help to provide wireless service in a circuit-switched fall back scenario. In particular, when a user entity (UE) falls back from a first network to a second network to conduct a voice call, the first network may instruct the UE to scan a certain predetermined channel or channels for coverage from the second network. However, certain types of base stations typically operate on unlisted channels that differ from the predetermined channels that the UE is instructed to scan. Accordingly, a UE may pre-emptively scan unlisted channels, and report any unlisted channel that is detected to the first network. The first network can then coordinate with the second network to re-provision the base station that was operating on an unlisted channel, to instead operate on one of the predetermined channels that a UE will be instructed to scan during fall back to the second network.

  • Patent number: 9832710
Abstract: A method and system for controlling broadcast of system identification. A base station may broadcast in one or more timeslots of a control channel, as a System Identifier (SID) of the base station, a particular SID, but may broadcast in one or more other timeslots of the control channel, as a SID of the base station, a different SID. In addition, when a mobile station registers to be served by the base station, the base station may determine which slot(s) of the control channel the mobile station will monitor and may broadcast in the determined slot(s) a SID that may help to keep the mobile station from transitioning to be served by a different base station.

  • Patent number: 9820289
Abstract: A method and system for managing quantity of carriers to aggregate together in carrier aggregation service, based at least in part on consideration of the type of content that will be communicated to or from the user equipment device (UE) at issue. A base station serving the UE may determine a type of content that will be communicated between the base station and the UE and, based at least on the determined type of content, may decide whether to apply carrier aggregation and, when the decision is to apply carrier aggregation, determine, based at least on the determined type of content, how many component carriers to aggregate together in the carrier aggregation service of the UE. The base station may then modify an air interface connection with the UE to encompass the determined number of component carriers.

  • Patent number: 9807766
Abstract: A method and system for selecting carrier frequencies to use as a user equipment device's (UE's) primary component carrier (PCell) and secondary component carrier (SCell) for carrier aggregation service, based on consideration of the type of content that will be transmitted to or from the UE. A base station that is arranged to operate on a plurality of carrier frequencies may determine a type of content that will be communicated between the base station and a UE being served by the base station. Based on the determined type of content, the base station may select a first carrier frequency of the plurality to use as a PCell and may further select a second carrier frequency of the plurality to use as an SCell. The base station may then provide the UE with carrier aggregation service concurrently on the PCell and SCell.

  • Patent number: 9706583
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and corresponding system for controlling how a user equipment device (UE) served by a base station of a first network is concurrently served by a second network, where the first network is interconnected with the second network. In an example method, if the UE determines that the UE provides connectivity between at least one other device and the base station, the UE then causes itself to be served by the second network in a first mode in which the UE is registered with the second network via the first network. Whereas, if the UE determines that the UE does not provide such connectivity, the UE then instead causes itself to be served by the second network in a second mode in which the UE is registered with the second network directly via the second network rather than via the first network.

  • Patent number: 9655127
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for dynamically managing carrier aggregation based on operating conditions of small cells in a wireless communication system. A first base station may be configured for providing wireless services on a first wireless carrier band and a second wireless carrier band. One or more additional base stations may each configured for providing wireless services on the second wireless carrier band. A determination can be made that a load on the one or more additional base stations exceeds a threshold level while each is providing wireless coverage within a region that at least partially overlaps with wireless coverage provided by the first base station. In response, the first base can be caused to refrain from aggregating the first and second wireless carrier bands for providing wireless services under operational conditions defined to cause the base station to aggregate the first and second wireless carrier bands.

  • Patent number: 9622242
Abstract: At certain beamforming angles (i.e., those greater than a threshold amount) a sidelobe of a beamforming pattern used by a first sector may be pointed at wireless devices being serviced by a second sector. This causes the interference experienced by the first sector to be increased due to the transmissions of the wireless devices being serviced by the second sector. To help mitigate the interference experienced by the first sector, when the access node determines it is using a beamforming angle that may be susceptible to interference from the second sector (e.g., beamforming angle greater than a threshold), the first sector selects an amount of TTI bundling to be used by a wireless device. By configuring a wireless device to use TTI bundling (i.e., increase redundancy), the link budget for the wireless device is improved thereby lessening the effects of the interference being received via the sidelobe.

  • Patent number: 9554375
Abstract: Coordinated multipoint (CoMP) may involve coordination between multiple sectors to receive and/or process a given user equipment's uplink signal. Embodiments herein may help to intelligently select the particular sectors that should coordinate to provide uplink CoMP, based on the types of applications being served in sectors that are candidates to provide uplink CoMP. For example, a base station serving a primary sector in an CoMP group that includes two or more candidates from which to select a secondary sector sectors for uplink CoMP, may evaluate the application being served by traffic flows in these candidates, in an effort to select secondary sectors having lower-priority traffic flows.
