    Abstract: The invention provides methods and compositions for the highly efficient production of heterologous proteins in yeast and other fungi by overcoming the previous problems associated with failure of these proteins to fold properly. According to the invention, the quality control mechanism employed by fungi which returns misfolded proteins to the cytosol for degradation is manipulated so that these proteins are instead secreted.
