  • Patent number: 6088177
Abstract: An apparatus and formatting method formats a disk without using an index pulse generated by hardware for every disk rotation. A last data block gap and a track gap which are longer than a standard track gap length are first written. Even if there is a fluctuation in rotation cycle time during formatting, a last sector of each track is written over a beginning of the track gap. When writing to a last sector is complete, formatting of a track is complete. When a head is stably positioned at a track to be formatted, formatting of the track is started.

  • Patent number: 5469313
Abstract: A supporting device to support a magnetic head in close proximity to a photographic film passage so that the track section of the magnetic head is brought in contact with a magnetic layer on the film, includes a supporting member, a fixing member on which the magnetic head is fixed, two supporting resilient arms one ends of which are fixed to the fixing member and the other ends are fixed to the supporting member. The two supporting arms are fixed in such manner that the two supporting arms are inclined relative to a surface of the fixing member and imaginary lines which are colinear with and extend from the two first supporting arms cross each other at an imaginary line which is colinear with and extends from a magnetic gap of the track section of the magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 4943881
Abstract: A mechanism for supporting a pair of magnetic core heads for reading and writing magnetic codes of a flexible disk having magnetic coatings thereon while the disk is rotating. Each of the heads is disposed on either side of the disk. The head supporting structure allows one of the heads to rock about a radial axis with respect to the disk, i.e., pitching, and to rock about a circumferential axis with respect to the disk, i.e., rolling, as well as to move in the direction normal to the disk face. On the other hand, the other head is allowed to pitch and move normally to the disk face but prevented from rolling. Thus, it is possible to minimize the radial dislocation of the head core with respect to the recording tracks, while effectively ensuring follow-up characteristics of the head.

  • Patent number: 4807070
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mechanism for carrying a pair of magnetic core heads for reading and writing magnetic codes on a flexible disk having magnetic coatings thereon while the disk is rotating. Each of the heads is disposed on either side of the disk. The head carrying mechanism allows one of the heads 1 to rock about a radial axis with respect to the disk, i.e. pitching and to rock about a circumferential axis with respect to the disk, i.e. rolling as well as to move in the direction normal to the disk face. Further, the head carrying mechanism allows the head 0 to pitch about a radial axis with respect to the disk face but not to roll about an axis parallel to the circumferential direction with respect to the disk.

  • Patent number: 4633346
Abstract: A bead positioning apparatus includes a carriage for moving a magnetic head to a specified position of data tracks in a storage medium, a motor for driving the carriage depending on excitation pulses from a step motor, a light shielding plate mounted on the carriage, a light-emitting element, a light-sensitive element opposing to the light-emitting element through the light shielding plate and a position-judging device for judging the position of the magnetic head depending on the excitation pulses of the step motor and a signal of the light-sensitive element generated when light is shielded by the light-shielding plate, wherein the light-emitting element and the light-sensitive element are connected to a power source through a common switching element and the position-judging device outputs a signal, when the switching element is turned off, which is the same signal as if the light-sensitive element were device sensing light.

  • Patent number: 4622601
Abstract: In a flexible disc device having a magnetic head for reading data written in a flexible disc medium or writing data to the medium, the magnetic head enables to change effective track width specified by core width of writing/reading head gap and erasing head gap at the writing state corresponding to the record density in the diameter direction of the disc medium, thereby compatibility is obtained between plural sorts of flexible disc media being different in the track density.
