Patent number: 7729221Abstract: The invention provides an optical disk device that has a laser unit including a first objective lens and a second objective lens. A numerical aperture of the first objective lens is different from a numerical aperture of the second objective lens. The optical disk device has a first focus driver that detects a first voltage value indicating the value of a driving voltage to drive the first objective lens when light beams are irradiated onto the surface of an optical disk via the first objective lens and a focus is achieved. The optical disk device has a second focus driver that detects a second voltage value indicating the value of a driving voltage to drive the second objective lens when light beams are irradiated onto the recording surface of said optical disk via the second objective lens and a focus is achieved. The optical disk device has a controller that discriminates the type of an optical disk, based on a difference between the first voltage value and the second voltage value.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2007Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Assignee: Panasonic CorporationInventors: Tsukasa Masuda, Hiroshi Tsuji, Yoshiro Kashiwabara, Shingo Sagata

Patent number: 5768231Abstract: It is an object to provide an optical disk driving method and apparatus with the consumption power reduced. The optical disk driving apparatus includes a synchronizing clock generator 6 for generating a clock in synchronism with a reproduced signal, a synchronized state discriminator 17 for deciding if the frequency of the reproduced signal is within a synchronized range, and a spindle controller 18a for controlling the spindle to be stopped from being driven and thus left running by inertia when the frequency of the reproduced signal is decided to be within the synchronized range, but controlling the spindle to be driven so that the frequency of the reproduced signal can be pulled in the synchronized range immediately before the frequency of the reproduced signal goes out of the synchronized range.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shingo Sagata

Patent number: 5479388Abstract: A servo control system for controlling position of a readout head such as a magnetic or optical head which records, reproduces or erases information on or from a magnetic or magneto-optical disk. This servo control system includes an actuator for moving the head toward a required position on the disk, a position detecting circuit for detecting a position of the head relative to the disk, and a signal processing circuit for processing an output signal from the position detecting circuit to provide a control signal to the actuator. When a value of the signal from the position detecting circuit falls within a preselected range, a controller deactivates a servo control operation of the signal processing circuit and modifies controlled parameters used in the servo control operation in response to a disturbance such as vibration of the system.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1993Date of Patent: December 26, 1995Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroyuki Gondou, Kiyoyuki Suenaga, Kouji Muraoka, Shingo Sagata

Patent number: 5210732Abstract: An optical disk apparatus equipped with an objective lens for converging light from a light source onto a track formed on an optical disk, the objective lens being arranged to be movable and an error detecting section for detecting a difference in position between the light converged by the objective lens and the track on the optical disk. Included in the servo section of the optical disk apparatus are an amplifier for amplifying an output of the error detecting section with an amplification factor which is variable and a filter circuit for cutting off a frequency component of an output of the amplifying means, the cutoff frequency being variable. On the basis of the output of the filter circuit, a moving device moves the objective lens so that the difference between the converged light and said track is reduced. The amplification factor of the amplifier and the cutoff frequency of the filter circuit are determined in correspondence with the position of the objective lens.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kiyoyuki Suenaga, Hiroyuki Gondo, Makoto Taromaru, Koji Muraoka, Shingo Sagata
