  • Publication number: 20010003979
Abstract: In order to prevent an occurrence of dieseling phenomenon, and to prevent engine rotation speed from decreasing during idle operation or the idle operation from being stopped, in step S111, it is determined whether the flag value of an idle stop flag F_IDLSTP is “1” or not. If it is determined that the determination result is “YES”, that is, if it is determined that the internal combustion engine body is stopped, 0% is set to a target purge control valve drive duty value PGCMD (step S105), and 0 is set to the target purge flow rate QPGC (step S106). If it is determined that the determination result is “NO”, that is, when the internal combustion engine body is in operation, PGCMD calculation processing is executed (step S112).

  • Patent number: 5623913
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engine of this invention applies detection output of a wide-range air/fuel ratio sensor to an observer so as to estimate an air/fuel ratio of individual cylinder and, based on thus estimated air/fuel ratio, obtains an air/fuel ratio correction coefficient for individual cylinder and correctively controls the fuel injection amount for individual cylinder with the air/fuel ratio correction coefficient for individual cylinder. While the estimation processing of the observer is always continued, the air/fuel ratio correction coefficient for individual cylinder is automatically adjusted, for example, when the estimated air/fuel ratio becomes an abnormal value, according to operational condition of the internal combustion engine, and the like, thereby securing the stability in the corrective control and preventing the emission from deteriorating.

  • Patent number: 5597951
Abstract: An intake air amount-estimating apparatus for an internal combustion engine estimates an amount Gc of intake air actually drawn into a combustion chamber, based on a model formulated on an intake passage in which a portion of the intake passage extending from a throttle valve to each of the combustion chamber is regarded as a chamber. A value Gc' of the intake air amount in a steady operating condition is determined at least based on engine rotational speed and pressure within the chamber. An effective opening area A of the throttle valve is determined at least based on throttle valve opening and the pressure within the chamber. A first-order delay value ADELAY of the effective opening area of the throttle valve is determined. The intake air amount value Gc' is corrected to calculate the amount Gc by an equation of Gc=Gc'.times.(A/ADELAY).

  • Patent number: 5499617
Abstract: In an evaporative fuel control system in an internal combustion engine, a purge gas concentration is estimated by a purge gas concentration estimating device based on an air-fuel ratio correcting factor provided when a purge control valve is in its opened state and an air-fuel ratio correcting factor provided when the purge control valve is in its closed state. A lower limit value of an air-fuel ratio correcting factor, set by an air-fuel ratio correcting factor setting device, is determined by an air-fuel ratio correcting factor limit value setting device in accordance with the purge gas concentration estimated by the purge gas concentration estimating device. Thus, the lower limit value of the air-fuel ratio correcting factor can be varied depending upon the concentration of the purge gas, thereby setting an air-fuel ratio control range corresponding to the concentration of the purge gas.

  • Patent number: 5456234
Abstract: A system for controlling an electric fuel pump housing a DC motor therein for an internal combustion engine using a gasoline-alcohol blend fuel. A switchover line is preestablished with respect to alcohol concentration in the fuel and operating condition of the engine such as an engine load, an engine speed or both the engine load and engine speed. If the detected condition exceeds the switchover line in a high engine load, a relay is energized so that battery voltage is supplied to the motor through a line bypassing a resistor provided at an initial power supply line. Voltage and hence current applied to the motor is thus increased to raise pump speed higher. Although the system construction is simple and low-cost, sufficient fuel can be supplied at the high engine load.

  • Patent number: 5331938
Abstract: An evaporative emission control system for an internal combustion engine controls purging of evaporative fuel into the intake pipe of the engine. A first control valve is arranged in a communication passage communicating between a charcoal canister and the intake pipe, for supplying the evaporative fuel to the engine at a flow rate dependent on load on the engine. A second control valve is arranged in a bypass passage bypassing the first control valve for supplying the evaporative fuel to the engine at a predetermined flow rate. When a temperature of the engine is below a predetermined value, the first control valve is closed and at the same time the second control valve is made open, to thereby supply the evaporative fuel to the engine at the predetermined i.e. small flow rate. For a predetermined time period after the engine has been warmed up, the first and second control valves are controlled in the same manner. When the engine is idling as well, the same control of the two valves is carried out.

  • Patent number: 5230309
Abstract: A system for controlling heater mounted on a spark plug which ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion chamber. The heater-on time is determined such that it decreases with increasing engine temperature and increasing alcohol concentration. Current supplied to the heater is also determined such that it increases with increasing alcohol concentration and decreases with increasing engine temperature. Therefore, droplets at the spark plug caused by high alcohol concentration fuel can be removed while eliminating carbon fouling. The engine startablity can thus been improved without shorting the service life of the spark plug. Moreover, fuel injection amount is reduced so as not another fuel be deposited on a droplet fuel which is still being present. The heater is furthermore kept off when a starter motor is turning to supply sufficient power to the motor.

  • Patent number: 5197450
Abstract: A air-fuel control system for internal combustion engines using a blended fuel composed of gasoline and alcohol for determining or presuming a correction factor due to alcohol concentration in the fuel when an alcohol sensor for detecting the same has failed. An average value of the O.sub.2 feedback correction factor reflecting a deviation between a target air fuel ratio and an actual air-fuel ratio is obtained and based on it, a target value is determined. The average value is compared with upper and lower limits and when it reaches either one, the factor obtained when the sensor operated properly is adjusted by an amount to follow up the target value.
