    Abstract: In order to prevent a thermoplastic resin possessing an unsaturated nitrile unit from discoloration, the thermoplastic resin prepared by copolymerizing at least an unsaturated nitrile compound as a polymerizing component in the presence or absence of a rubbery polymer is blended with 2,4-di-t-amyl-6-[1-(3,5-di-t-amyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]phenyl acrylate. The resulting composition shows little discoloration during the production and processing stages.

    Abstract: Inorganic fiber such as carbon fiber is modified by a surface treatment with a dinitrodiamine compound represented by the formula of ##STR1## wherein X is a divalent aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic group which may contain halogen or oxygen in the group, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group or an aromatic group, with the proviso that two nitrogen atoms linking through X may further link through R.sup.1 when both X and R.sup.1 are the aliphatic groups, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another are each hydrogen or an alkyl of 1 to 12 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may conjointly form a ring. The inorganic fiber thus modified is useful for reinforcement of resins.

    Abstract: A rubber composition comprising the following components:(A) a rubber component comprising at least 50% by weight of a styrene/butadiene copolymer rubber;(B) an azodicarboxylic ester compound represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein X is an alkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl, or an unsubstituted or substituted benzyl;(C) carbon black having a nitrogen absorption specific surface area of 100 to 250 m.sup.2 /g and a dibutyl phthalate absorption number of 110 to 170 ml/100 g;(D) sulfur; and(E) a benzothiazole vulcanization accelerator.This rubber composition shows a high loss factor (tan .delta.) in a low temperature range, and a low loss factor in a high temperature range which when applied to the production of automobile tires, achieves improved braking power on wet, snow covered or frozen road surfaces. Lowered rolling resistance during driving without loss in the strength characteristics of the composition are also exhibited.

    Abstract: A styrene/butadiene copolymer rubber to be used for automobile tires is lowered in its rolling resistance by blending it with carbon black and the following components (A) and (B):(A) a dinitrodiamine compound represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is a divalent organic group such as an alkylene, R.sup.1 is hydrogen or an organic group such as an alkyl, provided that two nitrogen atoms linking through X may further link through R.sup.1, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each hydrogen or an alkyl, provided that R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may conjointly form a ring; and(B) a sulfide compound selected from dibenzothiazyl disulfide, tetralkylthiuram disulfide, and alkyl- or hydroxy-substituted phenol sulfide resin. The dinitrodiamine compound (A) and the sulfide compound (B) are added simultaneously to the rubber together with the carbon black in a first kneading step of a high temperature.

This composition is stable against thermal processing, thermal oxidation, light oxidation and discoloration, and it is especially useful for fibers and films.

This novel crystal exhibits largely advantageous effects in industrial production and usage of the ester because of its high purity, high quality, excellent filterability owing to the large crystal growth, and excellent fluidity owing to the large bulk specific gravity.

    Abstract: Crude N,N'-bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)alkanediamine represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 2 to 10, is purified by crystallization from a ketone solvent of 3 to 9 carbon atoms. The purified product thus obtained has a purity of 98% by weight or more, a 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone content of 150 ppm or less, and an initial APHA value of 30 or less. The purified product is also inhibited from discoloration with the passage of time.

    Abstract: In a process for producing a thermoplastic resin by emulsion polymerization using a conjugated diene rubber, an aromatic vinyl compound and a vinyl cyanide compound, and by successive flocculation and direct pelletizing, the direct pelletizing is effected in the presence of a phenolic compound represented by ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 are each hydrogen or methyl, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each an alkyl of 1 to 9 carbon atoms. The use of the phenolic compound is effective to prevent the resin from thermal deterioration during the direct pelletizing, thereby producing the thermoplastic resin excellent in properties such as impact resistance.

This composition is stable against thermal processing, thermal oxidation and discoloration, and it is especially useful for fibers and films. Further incorporation of a polycondensate of dimethyl succinate with 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine is effective to inprove the light stability of the composition.

    Abstract: A bisphenol monoester represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each alkyl, and R.sup.4 is alkyl, alkenyl or phenyl, is produced by continuous two step reactions in which an aldehyde R.sup.1 -CHO and 2,4-dialkylphenol are subjected to a condensation reaction in a C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aliphatic or C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, and then a resulting bisphenol compound dissolved in the solvent is subjected to an esterification with a carboxylic acid R.sup.4 --COOH or its derivative. Prior to the esterification, the organic layer containing the bisphenol compound is subjected to a dehydration treatment, thereby enabling the two steps to proceed continuously without isolating the intermediate bisphenol compound. A purification process for the bisphenol monoester of the formula (I) is also disclosed in which the monoester is purified from a mixed solvent comprising a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.

    Abstract: A polypropylene resin containing an .alpha.-olefinic copolymer rubber and an inorganic filler is stabilized by incorporating therein the following 6 components:(A) a hindered phenolic compound having a molecular weight of not less than 500,(B) a high-molecular hindered piperidine compound such as poly[{6-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)amino-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diyl}{(2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-imino}hexamethylene{(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperid yl)imino}],(C) a low-molecular hindered piperidine compound such as 2-methyl-2-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)amino-N-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4 -piperidyl)propionamide,(D) a benzoate compound such as 2,4-di-t-butylphenyl 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzoate,(E) a phosphorous compound such as bis(2,4-di-t-butylphenyl) pentaerythritol diphosphite, and(F) an amide compound such as ethylene-bisstearylamide. This composition may also contain a sulfur compound such as dialkyl thiodipropionate and pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-alkylthiopropionate).

This rubber composition is increased in its loss factor and is useful for tires and rubber vibration isolators. For example, the resulting tires prepared from the rubber composition are improved in their gripping performance.

The composition thus blended is improved in thermal processing stability. Further, a modified polyolefin resin is improved in mechanical properties, particularly in impact strength, by the incorporation of the dinitrodiamine compound.
