  • Patent number: 6563607
Abstract: In case of reading an original of plural pages and collectively transmitting the successive short length pages as one page, the number of transmitted pages recorded on a transmission record list becomes different from the number of read pages, so that it is difficult for a user to judge, from such list, whether all the pages have been transmitted. In case the number of actually transmitted pages is different from the number of read or received pages stored in the second RAM, the user can select in advance, by a key depression on a keyboard, whether to record both the number of actually transmitted pages and the number of read or received pages stored in the second RAM or to record either one of the numbers, as the number of pages to be recorded on the transmission result list.

  • Patent number: 6419341
Abstract: Printer performs accurate ink-discharge status detection, dependent upon the type of a printhead attached to the printer, the print mode and the color of ink change, and a facsimile apparatus using the printer. Each time printing based on received facsimile image data for one page of print sheet has been completed, the printhead is moved to a position close to a photosensor, and test ink discharge is performed. At this time, the type of printhead is determined, and whether or not the color printhead is in normally-dischargeable status is judged by comparing a pulsewidth obtained from output from the photosensor with a threshold value selected in accordance with the discrimination result. Otherwise, one of a plurality of threshold values according to print modes and ink colors is read from a ROM, and test ink discharge is performed with respect to corresponding color ink. The result of the discharge is compared with the threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6417935
Abstract: When a plurality of pages of image data are combined into one page of image data for transmission, the direct combination of the image data having different resolutions and the resulting recording of the image data on one record sheet while the image is partially expanded or reduced are prevented. In combining two pages of image data into one page of image data for transmission within a range in which the number of read lines of read image data does not exceed the number of available lines for recording per page at a transmission destination terminal, if the read resolutions of both image data are equal, the two pages of image data are combined into one page of image data for transmission, and if the read resolutions are different, the combination is not conducted and the image data of the respective pages are transmitted as the independent pages of image data.

  • Patent number: 6130965
Abstract: A facsimile avoids waste of record sheets due to recording of image data only at the top of a record sheet with the bottom of the sheet being left blank. This is achieved by summing the number of lines on a plurality of document sheets, with the sum being compared with the sub-scan length of the record sheet, and if the sum can be accommodated by the record sheet, the image data of the plurality of document sheets are combined as one page of image data for transmission.

  • Patent number: 6088131
Abstract: A communication apparatus can transmit image data stored in a memory in a manner capable of reducing the running cost. The number of input lines for each page is recognized for image data of a plurality of pages input and stored in the memory. When transmitting the stored image data of the plurality of pages, the number of recordable lines per page of a recording sheet used in a communication partner's terminal is recognized, and image data for one page obtained by combining image data of a plurality of consecutive pages is transmitted. The reception side combines a maximum number of image data for a plurality of pages recordable on a single recording sheet, and transmits the obtained image data as image data for one page. Image data of different files for the same communication partner are also combined in the above-described manner.

  • Patent number: 6048045
Abstract: A printer which can perform color printing by using a plurality of color ink, and if some color ink is exhausted, prevents wasteful consumption of other color ink, and a facsimile apparatus, using the printer, which enables to confirm whether or not printing based on received facsimile image data using ink has been normally performed. In a case where printing is performed based on print data from an external computer, printhead 5 is moved to a position opposite to photosensor 8, and test ink discharge is performed with regard to all the plurality of color ink prior to print operation. If it is judged that even one of the plurality of color ink is exhausted, print operation is not performed. In case of printing based on facsimile reception image data, test ink discharge is performed after the print operation. If it is judged that ink is exhausted, received image data is stored into an image memory.

  • Patent number: 5959744
Abstract: A recording apparatus records image data without wastefully consuming record sheets. Received image data are combined in a sub-scan direction, and if a sub-scan length of the combined image data does not exceed a sub-scan length of a record sheet loaded in the apparatus, the combined data is recorded on one record sheet. When main scan lengths of image data of a plurality of pages combined are different from each other, the image data are reduced to comply to a record sheet of a minimum main scan length. When resolutions of image data of a plurality of pages combined are different from each other, the resolutions are converted to a minimum resolution and they are recorded.

  • Patent number: 5933581
Abstract: A communication apparatus includes an ink jet type printer capable of shifting from a normal operation mode to a low power consumption mode in a stand-by state by rendering the printer to a sleep mode. A recovery level of the printer at the time of wakeup from the sleep mode is based on an elapsed time that is counted from a previous recovery execution time, and a recovery operation is based on the determined recovery level. In another aspect, in the power saving mode, a printer processing unit is not enabled, but then is enabled in reply to a change from the power saving mode to the normal mode, and a communication processing unit transfers control data to the printer processing unit in response to the change from the power saving mode to the normal mode to be used for controlling the printer unit.

  • Patent number: 5918006
Abstract: A communication device includes a storage medium for storing a program and information used to detect any error in the program, to prevent the communication device from further abnormal operation when an error occurs in the stored program. The occurrence of an error in the program is detected by performing a calculation based on the stored program, and comparing the result of the calculation with the above-described information stored in the storage medium. A predetermined operation is further performed depending on the result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 5819013
Abstract: A communication apparatus suppresses an unnecessary recovery operation when the communication apparatus is raised from a low power consumption mode to a normal operation mode to shorten a time before a printer unit is ready for printing. When the printer unit wakes up from a sleep mode, a time counted by a recovery timer in a facsimile control unit is sent to the printer unit as time data through a bilateral path. A CPU in the printer unit adds time data stores in an NVRAM at the time of entry of the facsimile apparatus to the low power consumption mode to the sent time data to determine the recovery level based on the sum time data and the recovery operation is executed. When the supply of power to an ink jet printer is stopped to reduce the power consumption, a timer in the printer and a bilateral record correction value deviate so that the recovery operation which is to be executed at an interval of 72 hours cannot be executed at the correct time interval.

  • Patent number: 5742402
Abstract: A facsimile apparatus and a facsimile communication method prevent the termination of communication in error due to memory capacity shortage when confidential communication or relay designation communication is effected by using a sub-address additionally recommended by the CCITT/T.30. When a remaining capacity of an image memory is smaller than a preset threshold, sub-address control information representing the invalidity of the sub-address is stored in sub-address control memory means. As a result, when an initial identification signal or a send command signal is sent to a destination station, a bit indicating that the sub-address is valid is sent without being set. Namely, the invalidity of the sub-address function is informed to the destination station. Thus, the confidential reception or the relay designation reception using the sub-address is not accepted and the termination of the communication in error due to the memory capacity shortage is avoided.
