Patent number: 5939404Abstract: The present invention relates to the technology for inhibiting the cancer metastasis, and is aimed at the provision of a pharmaceutical composition for effectively inhibiting the metastasis of the cancer. A cancer metastasis inhibitor according to the present invention is characterized by containing a sugar chain separated from a surface of a Streptococcus agalactiae Ia type or Ib type as a main ingredient. Since the surface sugar chains of the Streptococcus agalactiae Ia type or Ib type have structures similar to surface sugar chains of the cancer cells, the former surface sugar chains adhere to E-selectin appearing in an intravascular endothelial cell, competitively inhibit the adhesion between intravascular endothelial cells and the cancer cells, and effectively prevent of the metastasis of the cancer, when the sugar chains exist in blood of a patient.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1997Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: NGK Insulators, Ltd.Inventors: Shinji Iijima, Katsuhide Miyake, Shin Yamamoto, Yasuko Yoshida, Mitsuo Kawase

Patent number: 5449625Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for performing a fluoroimmunoassay, the apparatus comprising an excitation light source, a fluorescence detector, an optical fiber for an excitation light from the excitation light source to which an antigen or antibody is bound, and a spectroscope, in which the mentioned antigen or antibody is bound to an outgoing end surface of the optical fiber for the excitation light. In the apparatus the spectroscope is constructed so that it introduces the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to a incident end surface of the optical fiber for the excitation light and introduces a fluorescence emitted from a fluorescence-labeled antibody or antigen which forms an immunological complex with the antigen or antibody to the fluorescence detector. In the apparatus the outgoing end surface of the optical fiber for the excitation light has a transmittance for the excitation light from the excitation light source.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1993Date of Patent: September 12, 1995Assignee: Ibiden Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Kobayashi, Shinji Iijima, Yasunori Sakai, Ken-ichi Shimada

Patent number: 5354574Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing an optical fiber having formyl groups on a core surface. In one embodiment, a plastic optical fiber having formyl groups on a core surface is obtained by immersing the core surface of the plastic optical fiber in a treating solution containing at least a 0.5 to 40 mM alkali metal hydroxide and a compound having formyl groups in water or lower alcohol solvent. In the other embodiment, a plastic optical fiber having formyl groups on a core surface is obtained by introducing a vic-diol group, a primary hydroxyl group or an alkenyl group on the core surface, and then oxidizing it. Turbidity on the core surface of the optical fiber thus obtained is minimized, thereby reducing the transmittance losses of light.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1993Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Assignee: Ibiden Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Kobayashi, Shinji Iijima, Ken-ichi Shimada, Kazue Ohe, Yasunori Sakai

Patent number: 5268286Abstract: A biocatalyst is immobilized with a graft product of a polymer and saponified polyvinyl acetate containing a stilbazolium group as a photo-crosslinking group. The polymer is preferably gelatin, collagen, starch, cellulose, gum arabic, tragacanth gum, carrageenan, mannan, dextrin or alginic acid. The graft product is prepared by bonding the polymer to the polyvinyl acetate, either directly through functional groups of the polymer and polyvinyl acetate or through a crosslinking agent. The polymer provides affinity for the biocatalyst and by grafting the polymer to the saponified polyvinyl acetate, damage to cells upon immobilization is reduced. A liquid composition containing a biocatalyst and the graft product is added to an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt or an organic salt to form a granular gel and the gel is irradiated with actinic rays to cure the gel.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1991Date of Patent: December 7, 1993Assignees: Ojo Kako Co., Ltd., Kansai Paint Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Kobayashi, Shinji Iijima, Masamichi Kamihira, Mikiko Hata, Takamitsu Iida, Masahiro Sakamoto, Hiroshi Itoh, Naoki Isobe
