  • Patent number: 5934913
Abstract: A board mounting-type connector in which an external force, applied to the connector, will not act directly on solder portions on the connector, and the efficiency of an assembling operation is high. A board mounting-type connector (6) is fixed to a board (10) supported within an equipment body (16), and projects outwardly from a connector opening (18) formed in an equipment cover (7) which cooperates with the equipment body to cover the board (10). Board terminals (8) are soldered at their one ends (8a) to the board (10), and other end portions (8b) of the board terminals are received in the connector. Connector-supporting projections (14) are formed on an outer peripheral surface of that portion of the connector projecting outwardly from the connector opening (18), and the connector-supporting projections abut against a peripheral edge portion of the connector opening (18) so that an external force, applied to the connector in a direction toward the board (10), can be supported by the equipment cover (7).

  • Patent number: 5769663
Abstract: A connector housing for accommodating terminals therein includes a housing body having a plurality of cavities, a plurality of flexible lances which are cngageable with the terminals, and a plurality of cavity orifices for allowing the lances to be displaced in a disengagement direction with the terminals. The lance is provided with slanted surfaces for stopping an excessive displacement of the lances. When the terminals are inserted into the cavities, the lances are displaced in the disengagement direction thereby allowing the terminals to enter into the cavities. In the case of withdrawing the terminals from the connector housing, the excessive deformation of the lance can be prevented by the slanted surfaces' interference with the cavity orifice before the lances are bent forcibly, whereby the lances can return to the initial position elastically and securely after a withdrawing operation of the terminals.

  • Patent number: 5769651
Abstract: A movable connector provided with a connector housing to be movably attached to an instrument panel. In the movable connector, a pipe portion of an inner flange is slidably fitted to the outside of a flange fitting portion projected from the connector housing in a connector-fitting direction. A flange portion of the inner flange is supported movably along a surface of the instrument panel by an outer flange. A gap between the pipe portion and the outer flange is filled with a first region of an elastic body. Further, a gap between an end surface of the pipe portion and an end surface of the connector housing is filled with a second region of the elastic body. The force acting on the connector housing in a direction perpendicular to the connector-fitting direction is absorbed by elastic deformation of the first region, and the force in the connector-fitting direction is absorbed by elastic deformation of the second region.

  • Patent number: 5760592
Abstract: A connector housing (22) before insertion of a terminal lug thereinto is set in an inspection chamber (7) on a connector inspection device (A), so that a movable pin (9) of an inspection pin (8) is located inside a front end portion of the terminal-accommodating chamber in the connector housing. With the terminal lug thereafter inserted into the accommodating chamber, the movable pin is moved back against a spring (11) so that, when the terminal lug has been fully inserted, the movable pin comes into contact with a stationary pin to energize an inspection electric circuit (18). Thus, the full insertion of the terminal lug (C) can be known. Hold on the terminal lug is then released to allow the terminal lug to retract by a distance corresponding to a clearance (D) present between an edge of a locking portion (28) of the terminal lug and a locking projection (24a) of a resilient locking piece (24), so that the movable pin is now separated from the stationary pin to shut off the inspection electric circuit.

  • Patent number: 5670884
Abstract: A connector testing device of the handy type which is capable of easily examining the condition of insertion of connection terminals in a connector. This device includes detection pins each including a tip end portion extending forwardly from a body portion thereof, and a detection portion which extends rearwardly from the body portion, and is smaller in cross-sectional area than the body portion. The detection pin is movable forward and rearward, and is normally urged forward. The device also includes a spacer having insertion holes each allowing the body portion to pass therethrough, the spacer being movable upward and downward, and being normally urged upward. In an upwardly-urged position of the spacer, the insertion hole allows the associated body portion to pass therethrough.

  • Patent number: 5645452
Abstract: A flexible lance for retaining a terminal inserted into a cavity is formed on a cavity floor separating adjacent cavities, formed in a connector housing, from each other. The cavity floor has a hole for receiving a front end portion of the flexible lance when this lance is flexed into a retracted position. A pair of ribs each serving as a stopper are formed on a lower surface of the cavity floor, and are disposed respectively on opposite sides of the hole, the ribs extending in a longitudinal direction. When a stress exceeding the elastic deformation limit of the lance acts on the flexible lance, side beaks are brought into engagement with the ribs, respectively, thereby preventing the flexible lance from undue displacement.

  • Patent number: 5601454
Abstract: In a lance defect detection construction, if a lance lacks a beak at its distal end because of defective molding, the lance can not be displaced by a distal end of a terminal. In such a case, an insertion prevention surface, which is so arranged as to interfere with a retaining piece portion of the terminal, formed on a rear edge of each of side beaks formed respectively on opposite side surfaces of the lance, abuts against a front edge of the associated retaining piece portion, thereby hindering the insertion of the terminal into a terminal receiving chamber 1. As a result, the terminal is held not in a pseudo-retained condition but in an clearly incompletely-inserted condition, so that a molding defect in the lance can be easily detected.
