Patent number: 5164771Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a detector for measuring the surface potential of a photosensitive member on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and a controller which regulates image formation plural times in accordance with the measured surface potential based on the length of time between image formations. In another aspect, the image forming apparatus includes a light source and a setting device for manually setting the quantity of light therefrom between a maximum and minimum value. A test sample of a predetermined optical density is arranged to be illuminated by the light source so as to produce a test light for projection onto a recording medium. A detector detects an electrical surface condition of the test-lighted recording medium. In response to the detected electrical surface conditions, and a controller regulates the image formation in accordance with the detector.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1991Date of Patent: November 17, 1992Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koji Suzuki, Yoshikazu Yokomizo, Yoshihiro Kawatsura, Shinkichi Takahashi, Hiroaki Tsuchiya, Shinichi Iwasaki

Patent number: 4298669Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming an electrostatic image on a photosensitive plate having a conductive base, a photoconductive layer overlying the base and exhibiting p-type or n-type semiconductivity, and an insulative layer overlying the photoconductive layer. The photosensitive plate is characterized in having carrier charge of a polarity corresponding to the conductivity type of the photoconductive layer injectable from the conductive base into the photoconductive layer and bound in the region of the interface between the insulative and photoconductive layers. The conductive base is transparent to activating light and the insulative layer is opaque to the activating light. A first charge of a polarity opposite to the conductivity type of the photoconductive layer is applied onto the insulative layer to inject and bind carrier charge in the region of the interface between the insulative and photoconductive layers.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1979Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Giichi Marushima, Hiroshi Tanaka, Umi Tosaka, Shinkichi Takahashi, Takao Komiyu
