  • Publication number: 20120232185
Abstract: A biodegradable polymer and its manufacturing method are disclosed. The biodegradable polymer comprises high molecular weight polymer and degradation enhancing polymeric additive. The degradation enhancing polymeric additive is a low molecular weight poly-3-hydroxybutyrate that has a weight-average molecular weight in the range of 50˜2500 g/mole and it can occupies 5%˜30% of the total weight percentage of the biodegradable polymer. The biodegradable polymer and the method for manufacturing the same produce unsaturated compounds of crotonic acid oligomer, which is a low molecular weight poly-3-hydroxybutyrate used as a degradation enhancing polymeric additive, through the degradation process of PHB material and then blend it into high molecular weight polymer. By using its property of easily being degraded by bacteria, the biodegradability and bio-compatibility of the general high molecular weight polymer can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20080293894
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of improving the thermal stability of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB). The thermal stability of PHB was improved by grafting maleic anhydride (MA) onto the PHB through various processes. It has been proved that purified grafted PHB had a higher degradation temperature, a better thermal stability than the pristine PHB, and was not easy to decrease molecular weight by heat treatment. At the same time, the crystallization rate, the melting temperature and crystallinity were all increased. The MA was effectively grafted onto PHB by processes of solution grafting, melt grafting, mechanical grafting methods and so on. The grafting degree of MA was changed with the increasing amounts of the initiator and MA. The degradation temperature of the PHB was significantly increased by MA grafting because the degradation was blocked in the formation of six-member ring by the steric hindrance of the grafted MA.

  • Patent number: 7216975
Abstract: A method for preparing the tinted contact lens with the covalently bonded novel reactive tinting compound is disclosed. The reactive tinting compound with mono vinyl functionality is prepared by reacting the reactive dye with a hydrophilic monomer containing both pendent hydroxyl and vinyl groups under an alkaline condition. The water soluble reactive dyes containing either difluoro-chloropyrimidine or ?-sulphatoethylsulphone reactive groups are used for synthesis of the reactive tinting dye. The lens forming materials are photo-polymerized in the presence of the reactive tinting compound to prepare a tinted contact lens. The reactive tinting compound is copolymerized with the lens forming monomers in a single photo-polymerization step that requires no subsequently alkaline soaking or developing step as used in the prior art. In addition, the covalently bonded dye is stable and durable in the lens and does not fade or leach out after multiple high-pressure thermal sterilizations.

  • Publication number: 20060087010
Abstract: The present invention pertains to an IC substrate, a manufacturing method thereof and a semiconductor element packaged thereby, wherein a plurality of patterned through-trenches on a metallic board are filled with an insulating material or other materials of different electric conductivity in order to separate the metallic board into a plurality of electrically conductive zones or zones of special electric characteristics. Such a metallic board of the present invention is to be used as a metallic substrate to undertake various modes of IC packaging in order to accomplish various types of packaged elements. The present invention, wherein the metallic substrate is used as an IC substrate, combines the technologies of the conventional lead frame and the conventional PCB, and possesses the advantages of a superior heat-dissipating ability and a possibility of more available leads.

  • Patent number: 6914086
Abstract: A crosslinkable UV absorbing agent prepared by the following steps: (1) preparing a mixture of reactants comprising a UV absorbing compound (A) with multiple pendant hydroxyl groups and an unsaturated monoglycidyl compound (B) with both reactive glycidyl and vinyl groups; (2) mixing a base catalyst (C) with the mixture of reactants; (3) initiating a synthesis reaction of the crosslinkable UV absorbing agent under heating; and (4) recovering the resulting product after the synthesis reaction is completed. The crosslinkable UV absorbing agent is directly applicable in the lens formulation to replace conventional crosslinking agent and UV absorber used in the production of the soft contact lens without any purification or modification.
