  • Patent number: 5205056
Abstract: A structure for securing a cleat to a cycling shoe includes a shoe bottom defining a recess in an upper surface thereof, and at least one slot extending through a bottom surface of the recess and parallel to a longitudinal axis of the shoe; a plate accommodate in the recess and having a fore and aft length at least half a length of the slot; a sleeve-like guide element attached to an offset position of the plate; a washer fitted in an opening defined in the cleat; and a screw extending through the washer from below for engaging the guide element. The guide element is offset to such an extent that an end of the plate is out of contact with an end wall of the recess when the guide element contacts an end of the slot lying in the direction in which the guide element is offset. The plate in this structure has a length equal to or greater than a half length of the slot, which results in a reduced extent of the slot exposed to the ground to restrict small stones, nails and the like entering the shoe.

  • Patent number: 5185944
Abstract: A shoe for e.g. sporting activities is disclosed. The shoe has a peripheral portion including a pair of sections divided in a longitudinal direction of the shoe along a foot-arch portion thereof. The sections are configurated so that the sections are overlapped with each other at least at a portion of the foot-arch portion when cut portions of the respective sections are folded out with upper areas of the respective cut portions being placed in contact with each other. And, the sections are sewn to each other at the cut portions. Then, the peripheral portion is attached to a sole of the shoe with the foot-arch portion being recessed into interior of the shoe.

  • Patent number: 5125173
Abstract: A cycling shoe having a cleat-attaching hole in its sole. The shoe has a pair of attaching holes for attaching a cleat to a sole of the shoe, the attaching holes being formed in the sole. The attaching holes are a pair of elongated slots formed substantially along a longitudinal direction of the shoe and are disposed substantially in parallel with each other along a lateral direction of the shoe. Each of the elongated slots can be alternately formed of a series of small holes aligned along the longitudinal direction of the shoe. A distance between the centers of the pair of elongated slots relative to the width of the shoe is limited at not greater than 19 mm so as to obtain a sufficient and necessary amount of cleat attachment angle range.

  • Patent number: 4442732
Abstract: A pedal for a bicycle, having a pedal body and a bearing mechanism for rotatably supporting the pedal body to a crank arm, the pedal body being equipped with a toe clip and a toe strap. The pedal body is displaced with respect to the bearing mechanism and the bearing mechanism comprises a bearing cylinder extending from the pedal body and having a threaded bore, a spindle screwable therewith, and a tubular member fixed to the crank arm, the spindle having at its outer periphery a first ball race, the bearing cylinder having at its outer periphery a second ball race larger in diameter than the first ball race, so that the bearing cylinder and spindle may be rotatably supported to the fixed tubular member through balls carried by the ball races.

  • Patent number: 4313352
Abstract: A pedal for a bicycle, which has a support having reflectors and being separate from a pedal body, the support being mounted thereto in relation of being swingable between a vertical position where the support projects downwardly from the lower surface of the pedal body and a horizontal position, so that when the bicycle is driven in the night, the support may project downwardly from the lower surface of pedal body to expose the reflectors, and when the reflectors are not necessary for use, the support may swing to reach the horizontal position and be held thereat.

  • Patent number: 4269084
Abstract: A toe clip is attached to a bicycle pedal and holds a driver's foot thereon in cooperation with a toe strap. The toe clip body is formed of a plate curved forward at a substantially intermediate portion thereof and has the curved portion and a first and second free end portions extending rearwardly thereof. At both side edges of the clip body between the lower end of curved portion and the rear edge of second free end portion are provided a pair of rising pieces approximately equal in height to a front plate at the pedal so that when attached to the pedal for use, the toe clip has a reduced resistance against air flow.
