  • Patent number: 7813835
Abstract: A behavior control system for a robot apparatus that operates autonomously. The behavior control system includes a plurality of behavior description sections for describing motions of the robot and an external environment recognition section. The system also includes an internal state management section for managing an internal state of the robot in response to the recognized external environment and/or a result of execution of a behavior, and for managing emotions. A behavior evaluation section evaluates execution of behaviors in response to the external environment and/or the internal state.

  • Publication number: 20090060291
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a face detecting unit that detects a face area included in image data, a face-component detecting unit that detects a face component from the face area detected by the face detecting unit, and a line-of-sight discriminating unit that executes line-of-sight discrimination processing for a face image from which the face component is detected by the face-component detecting unit. The line-of-sight discriminating unit executes processing for discriminating whether a line of sight of the face image data from which the face component is detected is in a positive state in which a line of sight is directed in a camera direction or a negative state in which a line of sight is not directed in a camera direction according to collation processing for a line-of-sight discrimination dictionary in which learning data including classification data corresponding to the respective states are stored and input face image data.

  • Publication number: 20070276690
Abstract: The present invention provides an information processing apparatus for carrying out processes in response to how a user behaves. The information processing apparatus includes a sensor device, operator probability computation means, and processing means. The sensor device is configured to sense conditions. The operator probability computation means is configured to compute an operator probability representing how likely each of at least one target is to be an operator operating the information processing apparatus on the basis of an output of the sensor device, the target being the user staying close to the apparatus. The processing means configured to perform a predetermined process based on the operator probability.

  • Patent number: 7216112
Abstract: A memory system and a method as well as robotic apparatus are strong against noise and excellent in memory capacity, volume of calculation, quantity of physical memory, and memory responsiveness. It is designed to store, in the frame form, the first information on a symbol as well as the second information on a symbol supplied separately from a variety of inputs in relation to competitive neurons corresponding to the symbol in a way to strengthen the connection between relevant input neurons and competitive neurons in response to the input patterns of a variety of inputs for each symbol with the use of a competitive neural network having a set of input layers composed of a plurality of input neurons and a set of competitive layers composed of a plurality of competitive neurons.

  • Publication number: 20060047362
Abstract: No robot that can make a dialog customized for the user is known to date. According to the invention, various pieces of information appendant to an object are stored as values of the corresponding items of the object and a topic that is related to the topic used in the immediately preceding conversation is selected. Then, an acquisition conversation for acquiring the value of the item of the selected topic or a utilization conversation for utilizing the value of the item of the topic that is already stored is generated as the next conversation. The value acquired by the acquisition conversation is stored as the value of the corresponding item.

  • Publication number: 20050197739
Abstract: A behavior control system and a behavior control method for a robot apparatus are disclosed. The behavior control system and the behavior control method for a robot apparatus include a function of adaptively switching between a behavior selection standard, taking into account the own state, required of an autonomous robot, and a behavior selection standard, taking into account the state of a counterpart, responsive to a situation. A behavior selection control system in a robot apparatus includes a situation-dependent behavior layer (SBL), capable of selecting a particular behavior from plural behaviors, and outputting the so selected behavior, and an AL calculating unit 120 for calculating the AL (activation level), indicating the priority of execution of the behaviors, for behavior selection.

  • Publication number: 20040243281
Abstract: A situated behavior layer is formed from a tree structure of schemas, and a parent schema calls a Monitor function of a child schema using an external stimulus and an internal state as arguments whereas the child schema returns an AL value as a return value. The child schema calls a Monitor function of its child schema in order to calculate an AL value of the child schema itself. AL values from sub trees are returned to a root schema, and evaluation of behaviors and execution of a behavior are performed concurrently. Further, emotions are divided into a plurality of layers depending upon the significance of presence thereof, and it is determined which one of a plurality of such determined motions should be selectively performed depending upon an external environment and an internal state at the time.
