  • Patent number: 7102696
Abstract: A process of effecting various anti compensation processes on input image on a plasma display panel comprises the steps of a) performing a gamma (i.e., ? equal to 0.45) compensation process on a video signal received by the PDP with respect to a ?; b) dividing the video signal into at least two segments based on a gray level thereof; and c) performing a variety of anti compensation processes on the video signal in respective segment. A smaller ? is used in the anti compensation process with respect to the video signal in a range of low gray level for increasing the gray level in the range of low gray level. Similarly, a larger ? is used in the anti compensation process with respect to the video signal in a range of high gray level for increasing a gradient in the range of high gray level, thereby obtaining a sharp image contrast, improving image quality, and rendering an enhanced image brightness.

  • Patent number: 6774873
Abstract: A method for implementing error diffusion on a plasma display panel (PDP) comprises the steps of performing an anti compensation process on a received video signal of the PDP; diffusing an error generated by a first one of a plurality of pixels to a plurality of adjacent pixels; absorbing errors generated by the plurality of adjacent pixels by the first pixel; and multiplying each of a plurality of numeric weightings and the error of each of the adjacent pixels to obtain an error function of the first pixel. This is effected in a cost effective while simple addition circuit for solving the problem of low level contouring in PDP due to insufficient gray scale of video signal in low gray scale.

  • Patent number: 6630918
Abstract: A compensation process for improving color saturation and image quality of a plasma display panel (PDP) is provided, wherein a brightness of light generated from each of red, green, and blue discharge cells of each pixel on said PDP is calculated through a numeric operation according to laws of color matching. The process comprises the step of increasing or decreasing the strength of input image signals of each of the red, green, and blue discharge cells in accordance with the calculation result for adjusting brightness of the generated red, green, and blue lights so as to subtract a visible light generated by gas in each of the red, green, and blue discharge cells during gas discharging, thereby eliminating an adverse effect of the visible light on color purity and color temperature of the PDP during gas discharging. This can obtain an image on PDP having an optimum color purity and color temperature and reduce the manufacturing cost.

  • Publication number: 20020167467
Abstract: A compensation process for improving color saturation and image quality of a plasma display panel (PDP) comprises the steps of a) calculating the brightness of a visible light generated by environment light on PDP through performing a numeric operation according to a color mixing theory, and the corresponding light ought to be generated by each of red, green, and blue discharge cells of each of a plurality of pixels on the PDP sufficient to exclude the visible light generated by environment light on PDP; b) increasing or decreasing strength of input image signals of each of said red, green, and blue discharge cells in accordance with the result of calculation; and c) generating light from each of said red, green, and blue discharge cells to eliminate said visible light from causing an adverse effect on said PDP. This can reduce manufacturing cost without modifying the construction of PDP or performing an additional processing thereon.

  • Publication number: 20020140637
Abstract: In a plasma display panel (PDP) a method for prolonging useful life thereof comprises the steps of performing an experiment on red, green, and blue phosphor layers each coated on a corresponding discharge cell for calculating a gain per gray scale on the phosphor layer of each discharge cell and obtaining expressions to represent relationship with respect to the use time of each discharge cell, thereby establishing a comparison table with respect to the gains; enabling a control circuit of PDP to select one of the gains from the comparison table based on use time for dynamically adjusting strength of input video signal of each discharge cell; and compensating a reduced brightness per gray scale on the phosphor layer of each discharge cell due to increase of the use time by each of emitted red, green and blue lights. This compensates the reduced emissivity and eliminates adverse effects such as shortening of life, color temperature change, and color deviation caused by the reduced emissivity.
