Patent number: 11717618Abstract: Medicinal fluid delivery devices and methods for advancing and retracting needles are disclosed. According to an aspect, a medicinal fluid delivery device includes a tube that defines an interior space that extends between a first and second openings. The device includes a needle including a proximal end and a distal end that substantially align in a first direction. A portion of the distal end is biased to extend in a second direction different than the first direction. A mechanism is attached to the proximal end and configured to position the distal end between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the portion of the distal end is constrained by the interior wall such that is does not extend in the second direction. In the second position, the distal end is not constrained by the interior wall such that it extends in the second direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2020Date of Patent: August 8, 2023Assignee: Duke UniversityInventors: Kathleen Carroll, Ru-Rong Ji, Linda Gray-Leithe, Timothy Amrhein, Shivanand Lad

Publication number: 20210386981Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for conditioning cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by removing target compounds from CSF. The systems provide for a catheter flow path and exchange of a majority volume portion of CSF in the CSF space. The removal and/or delivery of specific compounds can be tailored to the pathology of the specific disease. The removal is targeted and specific, for example, through the use of specific size-exclusion thresholds, antibodies against specific toxins, and other chromatographic techniques, as well as delivery and/or removal of targeted therapeutic agents.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2021Publication date: December 16, 2021Applicant: NEUROFLUIDICS, INC.Inventors: SHIVANAND LAD, WILLIAM C. Publication number: 20180174692Abstract: A system and method of managing and coordinating a medical procedure simplifies a desired medical procedure from beginning to end. The method includes at least one practitioner account and at least one patient account, both managed by at least one remote server. The method allows the practitioner account and the patient account to communicate with each other through a practitioner personal computing (PC) device and a patient PC device, respectively. The method begins with the execution of an exploratory process in order to identify a desired medical procedure. A distal preparatory process is then executed to gather and manage pre-procedure logistic data. A proximal preparatory process is then executed in order to gather and manage pre-procedure checklist data for the desired medical procedure. The method is completed with execution of a recovery process in order to gather and manage post-procedure logistic data for the desired medical procedure.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2018Publication date: June 21, 2018Inventors: Shivanand Lad, Ziad Gellad, Joseph Knight, Rajeev Dharmapurikar
