  • Publication number: 20150092643
Abstract: A station that performs a method to coordinate transmissions of scheduling requests (SR) with OnDurations of a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) cycle. The station receives a packet at a packet arrival time relative to a schedule indicating the SR opportunities and onDurations, the SR opportunities occurring at a first interval, the onDurations occurring at a second interval, the first interval being less than the second interval. The station determines an SR opportunity subsequent to the packet arrival time that precedes an entirety of a subsequent onDuration, such that a transmission duration to transmit the SR and the packet maximally overlaps with the selected onDuration. A sleep mode of the processor of the station is used until a time associated with the selected SR opportunity. An active mode of the processor is used to transmit the SR and receive control channel information during the onDuration.

  • Patent number: 8964680
Abstract: Improving transmission control protocol (TCP) uplink performance of a wireless user equipment (UE) device which multiplexes radio resources between multiple radio access technologies (RATs). Radio control may be provided to a radio resource control (RRC) entity that operates according to a first RAT at a first time. The first RAT may utilize TCP packet-switched (PS) communications. As a second time, radio control may be provided to an RRC entity that operates according to a second RAT which utilizes circuit-switched communications in order to check for paging messages. Radio control by the first RAT's RRC entity may be suspended while radio control is provided to the second RAT's RRC entity. An indication that radio control by the first RAT's RRC entity is suspended may be provided to a TCP entity that operates according to the first RAT. The TCP entity may suspend an uplink retransmission timer in response to the indication.

  • Patent number: 8948754
Abstract: Method and apparatus for establishing a connection between a device (e.g., a mobile device such as a telephone or tablet) and a communication network (e.g., a telephone/data service provider's network). The communication network may adhere to a mobile communication standard such as 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution). When the user device attempts a connection to a default access point name or APN (e.g., via an Attach Request message), and that access point is unavailable, instead of rejecting the request (e.g., with an Attach Reject message) the communication network identifies an access point that is available and returns an Attach Accept message that identifies the available access point. After the connection is established, if the default access point becomes available, the network may subsequently detach the user device from the network, but specify that the device should re-attach (to the default access point).

  • Publication number: 20140220975
Abstract: A wireless communication system is presented in which user equipment (UE) performs non-intra-frequency (NIF) cell reselection. The NIF cell reselection process can: detect, on a discontinues reception (DRX) cycle, whether a NIF for a second cell has passed a second reselection threshold; perform, on the DRX cycle, additional checks or measurements to determine whether a higher priority NIF for a third cell has passed a third reselection threshold; and continue a cell reselection process for the second cell and the third cell. The NIF cell reselection techniques can help ensure that the UE reselects to higher priority cells without expending an unnecessary amount power.

  • Publication number: 20140198699
Abstract: A connection with a network that includes a base station (BS) may be established by a user device (UE) via a wireless connection, for conducting communications using semi persistent scheduling (SPS) in a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) mode. The SPS transmit periodicity may be adjusted with respect to the SPS activation command and the SPS interval UL (for uplink). Data may then be transmitted during the C-DRX On-Duration periods according to the determined SPS transmit periodicity. In some embodiments, the SPS transmit periodicity is adjusted such that following a first C-DRX On-Duration period when an SPS activation command is received, SPS data transmission occurs a specified number of subframes earlier during each subsequent C-DRX On-Duration period than in the first C-DRX On-Duration period. The SPS data transmission in each subsequent C-DRX On-Duration period may take place as soon as the UE device wakes up during the On-Duration period.

  • Publication number: 20140135027
Abstract: A method for reducing scheduling requests by a wireless communication device transmitting data using dynamically scheduled resources over a logical is provided. The method includes receiving, at the wireless communication device, a configuration from a network entity that sets a LogicalChannelSR-Mask for a logical channel for which uplink resources can be dynamically scheduled by the wireless network. The method further includes waiting to send a scheduling request (SR) for a delay time period when data is available to be sent on the logical channel and uplink resources have not been granted. The method additionally includes using the grant to send the data without sending an SR when a grant is received within the delay time period; or sending an SR when a grant is not received within the delay time period. In another method, a network selectively enables or disables SRs for a logical channel through explicit signaling.
