    Abstract: An apparatus and method for recording digital data employing a DAT (digital audio tape recorder) adapted to record the data from a computer or the like in accordance with the DAT format, wherein a unit is formed of predetermined plural frames and a signal indicative of each frame number within a unit and a signal indicative of the last frame of the unit are recorded with each frame, whereby the length of the unit can be arbitrarily changed and accordingly signal processing is facilitated easily.
