Patent number: 5661749Abstract: Temperature sensors are embedded in a refractory material that make up the walls of a body of an induction furnace and detect an increase in the temperature of a molten metal in the body of the furnace due to the bridging of a metal material that is to be melted in the furnace body. The temperature sensors are connected to an antenna for detecting runout. Since various electrical data (voltage, current, power, frequency, etc.) that affect an alternating current to be supplied to a coil of the induction furnace change depending on the temperature of the molten metal, bridging of the metal material is detected by determining the rates of temporal change in these electrical data. Furthermore, the changes in the electrical data with respect to the progress of the operation of the induction furnace are previously stored in data storage, and the electrical data stored are compared with electrical data detected in the induction furnace in operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 26, 1997Assignee: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shizuo Hayashi

Patent number: 5352872Abstract: In a system of supplying electric power to an induction furnace, a required heating power is directly supplied to the induction furnace from an ac synchronous generator driven by a prime mover, such as a diesel engine, via a single-phase coil. At the same time, the voltage to be supplied to the single-phase coil is rendered continuously variable by an automatic voltage regulator of the generator to render continuously variable the heating power corresponding to the voltage to be supplied, and the frequency of the voltage to be supplied is rendered continuously variable by an automatic frequency regulator of the prime mover in accordance with predetermined mutual relationships with the voltage to be supplied. In addition, at the start of power supply, the voltage to be supplied and the frequency thereof are increased with gradients for a predetermined time duration from their predetermined minimum values to their rated values in accordance with the predetermined mutual relationships.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1993Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Assignee: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sadao Tsuji, Takayuki Hira, Shizuo Hayashi

Patent number: 4730755Abstract: The invention relates to a control apparatus for an automatic pouring furnace. According to the invention, the control apparatus, for example, a microcomputer, reads from a memory to regulate shot pressure and time periods for application of the shot pressure to effect a pouring operation as a function of the particular mold to be filled. Thus, a single furnace can be regulated automatically to fill a plurality of molds which, while limited in number, are various in kind.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1983Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Assignee: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shizuo Hayashi

Patent number: 4445670Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the pouring of molten metals in a pressure-type furnace is provided. The furnace includes a reservoir for storing the molten metal, a first passage for supplying the metal to the reservoir, and a second passage for supplying the metal stored in the reservoir to a pouring chamber where they are poured into a mold. A gas having a predetermined pressure is supplied to a pressure chamber disposed above the reservoir. An output signal from a load cell is generated representative of the amount of the metal contained in the furnace. The output signals are processed in a sampling circuit to obtain a rate of variation signal representative of variations in the amount of the metal stored in the furnace. The rate of variation signal is compared in a comparator circuit with a reference value to generate a replenishment signal indicating that the molten metal is being replenished.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Fuji Electric Company, Ltd.Inventor: Shizuo Hayashi

Patent number: 4419755Abstract: Disclosed is a method for measuring the extent of slag deposit buildup in the channel of a channel induction furnace during operation. The method comprises measuring an initial temperature rise factor in the furnace at a time when no slag deposits are present, measuring a subsequent temperature rise factor in the furnace after the furnace has been in operation for a period of time, correcting the subsequent temperature rise factor for any changes in the operating temperature and power levels applied to the furnace which may have taken place between the time of the measurement of the initial temperature rise factor and the time of the measurement of the subsequent temperature rise factor, and determining a quantity which is indicative of the extent of slag deposit buildup in the channel from the difference between the initial and subsequent temperature rise factors.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1982Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Fuji Electric Company, Ltd.Inventors: Tsuguharu Ohmori, Shizuo Hayashi
