  • Patent number: 4450819
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the injection timing of a distribution-type fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines. In the device of the present invention in which an adjusting piston is moved responsive to the fuel pressure in the high-pressure oil chamber and the resilient force of the timer spring, and the roller ring is rotated following the movement of the adjusting piston, the improvement comprises a cylinder which is provided in addition to a cylinder that accommodates the adjusting piston, and a shaft which slides in the above cylinder separately from the adjusting piston, so that the position of the adjusting piston can be adjusted by the shaft. The device employs sliding portions that do not require strict machining precision. Further, when the fuel injection pump is to be mounted on the engine, the initial timing can be easily adjusted through manipulation effected from the outer side of the fuel injection pump.

  • Patent number: 4450817
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the fuel injection timing of a compression ignition engine are featured by dithering the fuel injection timing so as to be advanced and retarded with respect to and in the vicinity of a calculated timing of injection of pressurized fuel supplied to the engine which calculated injection timing is determined in accordance with operating conditions of the engine, operating the engine alternately at the calculated fuel injection timing, the advanced fuel injection timing and the retarded fuel injection timing each during a given period of time, deciding a direction of improving a fuel consumption rate of the engine from corresponding changes of an operating condition of the engine detected when the engine is operated at the respective fuel injection timings, and correcting the calculated fuel injection timing in accordance with the result of the decision, thereby controlling the fuel injection timing at an optimum fuel injection timing which ensures an optimum fuel consumpti

  • Patent number: 4432321
Abstract: A fuel injection pump device for an internal combustion engine, in which a mechanical correcting signal continuously generated from a bellows in response to change in atmospheric pressure is transmitted to an adjusting member associated with a pump to adjust an amount of fuel injected into the engine by the pump. Transmission of the mechanical correcting signal from the bellows is limited such that the mechanical correcting signal is allowed to be transmitted to the adjusting member in a range in which the atmospheric pressure is below a predetermined level, but is prevented from being transmitted to the adjusting member when the atmospheric pressure is above the predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 4423713
Abstract: The intake pressure and temperature of a Diesel engine equipped with a supercharger are sensed and the sensed intake pressure value is divided by the sensed intake temperature value to obtain an intake density. A value indicative of the intake density is divided by a value indicative of the air-excess ratio computed in accordance with the operating condition of the engine producing a smoke-limit injection amount. The smoke-limit injection amount is compared with the injection amount corresponding to a part-load condition of the engine and the smaller one of the values is applied to a linear solenoid for controlling the fuel injection amount adjusting member in the fuel injection pump of the engine.
