Patent number: 7139581Abstract: A method and system for distance measurement in a low or zero intermediate frequency (IF) half-duplex communications loop measures the distance between two transceivers without synchronizing the local oscillators of the two transceivers. Transceiver distance may be measured in systems that use direct conversion (zero IF) or intermediate frequencies that are so low that phase noise significantly reduces the accuracy of the distance measurement. The communications loop demodulates, re-modulates and retransmits a received signal to provide a re-transmitted signal that has the same carrier and modulation frequency as the received signal. A phase-hold circuit provides an analog system for half-duplex operation that retains the frequency and phase information of the received signal for retransmission in a subsequent time slot.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2002Date of Patent: November 21, 2006Assignee: AeroScout, Inc.Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Alan Bensky, Reuven Amsalam, Gil Baver, Daniel Aljadaff

Patent number: 6898415Abstract: A system and method is capable of identifying multipath wireless signals, their relative strength, and their position. The system and method may be used in wireless distance measurement to generate a distance measurement free of multipath distortion. First and second wireless devices transmit and receive signals to generate multipath information. For distance measurements, this information may be used to calculate the true distance between two wireless devices that is compensated for multipath. The system and method may be used in a mobile wireless communications system to discriminate between various mobile wireless communications devices located in a region, for example, to conduct a commercial transaction or transmit or receive other information.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2001Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: AeroScout, Inc.Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Alan Bensky, Reuven Ameslem, Efraim Zilber

Patent number: 6859761Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for determining the distance between two objects using an indirect propagation delay measurement is disclosed. A frequency hopping scheme (such as the Bluetoothâ„¢ technology) is used to measure the relative phase offset of the received signal between the various frequencies. For a given distance between the objects, the phase offset vs. frequency curve is a straight line with the slope dependent upon the measured distance. After the phase of the received signals is detected, the data is plotted on a curve and the slope is calculated.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2001Date of Patent: February 22, 2005Assignee: Bluesoft Ltd.Inventors: Alan Bensky, Shlomo Berliner, Uri Holzkaner, Edward Mirodin

Publication number: 20040203470Abstract: A method and system for distance measurement in a low or zero intermediate frequency (IF) half-duplex communications loop provides a mechanism for measuring the distance between two transceivers without synchronizing the local oscillators of the two transceivers. Transceiver distance may be measured in systems that use direct conversion (zero IF) or intermediate frequencies that are so low that phase noise significantly reduces the accuracy of the distance measurement. The communications loop is closed by demodulating, re-modulating and re-transmitting a received signal to provide a re-transmitted signal that has the same carrier and modulation frequency as the received signal. A phase-hold circuit provides an analog system for half-duplex operation that retains the frequency and phase information of the received signal for retransmission in a subsequent time slot.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2002Publication date: October 14, 2004Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Alan Bensky, Reuven Amsalam, Gil Baver, Daniel Aljadaff

Patent number: 6731908Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for determining the distance between two objects using an indirect propagation delay measurement is disclosed. A frequency hopping scheme (such as the Bluetooth™ technology) is used to measure the relative phase offset of the received signal between the various frequencies. For a given distance between the objects, the phase offset vs. frequency curve is a straight line with the slope dependent upon the measured distance. After the phase of the received signals is detected, the data is plotted on a curve and the slope is calculated. A wireless slave device remains phase locked with another device in a half-duplex communication mode by employing a low-drift phase locked loop employing a voltage controlled crystal oscillator. The phase locked loop further employs a mechanism that provides immunity from transitory phase slip at a time when the loop is opened.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2001Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Bluesoft, Inc.Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Uri Holzkaner, Edward Mirodin

Publication number: 20030228846Abstract: A method and system for radio-frequency proximity detection uses received signal strength variance to determine proximity distance. A signal is received from a transmitting device by a receiving device and the variance of the signal computed over time. One or more ranges can be established to determine whether or not the variance falls within the expected range. A lower variance indicates a shorter proximity distance and therefore signals from devices within a variance range are established as being within a particular distance range. Denial/granting of service, or restricting of services can be performed in response to determining that a transmitting device is outside of a variance range. Variance computations can be performed at both ends of a transceiver link and results communicated and compared at both transceivers to further improve the accuracy of the proximity determination.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 2, 2003Publication date: December 11, 2003Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Daniel Aijadeff, Reuven Amsalem

Publication number: 20020154803Abstract: A fluid sample carrier is provided. The fluid sample carrier includes at least one lane occupying a length, and a portion of a width, of a surface of the carrier. The lane is sized and configured such that a fluid sample deposited thereupon would flow within the lane upon exertion of a directional force upon the fluid sample. The fluid sample carrier is also designed to prevent contamination of the apparatus in which it is held.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2002Publication date: October 24, 2002Applicant: Inflamet Ltd.Inventors: Shlomo Berliner, Benny Ron
