  • Patent number: 8682017
Abstract: A device (300) and method (600) for equal audio porting is provided. The device can include a first side with at least one first audio port (182) providing a data communication aspect, a second side with at least one second audio port (184) providing an audio communication aspect, and a transducer (110) positioned between the first side and the second side. The transducer projects sound out of the at least one first audio port and the at least one second audio port such that a quality of the sound through the at least one first audio port and the at least one second audio port are substantially the same.

  • Patent number: 7801571
Abstract: The invention concerns a mobile communications unit (100) having at least one transducer (120) that can broadcast audio through a direct port (110), at least one leak port (114) for leak tolerance of the unit, in which the leak port can have a first opening (116) and a multi-use opening (118). The multi-use opening can be coupled to the first opening of the leak port to complete a path for the leak port, and the multi-use opening can also receive a part of an accessory. As an example, the mobile unit can be a monolith mobile unit. As another example, the accessory can be a holster having a hook mechanism that fits within the multi-use opening and can secure the mobile communications unit to the holster.

  • Publication number: 20060120824
Abstract: The invention concerns a method (400) and system (100) for acoustic fastening. The system can include a first housing component (118), a second housing component (120) and one or more fasteners (114) having an acoustic channel (116) that passes through the fasteners. The fasteners can at least assist in securing the first housing component to the second housing component. The acoustic channel can be an acoustic leak path (136) that permits the release of acoustic pressure. The acoustic leak path can also decreases a frequency response difference between a sealed design and a leaky design. The acoustic channel may also be part of an acoustic resonator (142) that increases over a range of frequencies a frequency response (720) of an acoustic signal generated by a transducer (126).

  • Publication number: 20050079832
Abstract: A transducer design (50) can include a transducer assembly (60, 59 and 56) having a frontal area (61), a housing (52) having a main port (64) forming a portion of a main volume (61, 62, and 70), and an area (58) defining a back volume. The back volume is contiguous with the main volume and the frontal area substantially enclosed by the housing defines at least a portion of the main volume. A main volume path (63) and a back volume path (65) can be combined within a common region (62). The main volume and back volume paths can be further defined using a sheet metal transducer (74) and a felt element (72) placed within the common region.
